NBA Power Rankings: Week 19

They now need to win 22 of their final 26 games to become just the third team in NB history to win 70 regular-season games in a single season. The only two squads currently in this exclusive club are the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls (who won 72 games) and the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, who won an all-time record 73 contests. In addition, despite the fact that the playoffs don't start for another 55 days, the Bucks clinched a playoff berth on Sunday when the Wizards lost to the Bulls.

According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's JR Radcliffe, that's the earliest a team has clinched the playoffs in the history of the current format, besting the 2017 Warriors' mark of Feb. 25.

The game will be played at Staples Center on April 9, the last of three straight games the Lakers will play at home. The typical crunch of Staples Center scheduling for the week has been affected, causing three other games to be played on different nights: the Chicago Bulls will play t...

NBA All-Star Game Honors Life and Legacy of Kobe Bryant

(CHICAGO) — It has become one of the NBA’s most revered traditions: On the morning of the NBA All-Star Game, the league pays tribute to retired players with what is called the Legends Brunch. It brings together about 3,000 guests, and every year a recent retiree with ties to the game’s host city is honored. When the game was in Los Angeles two years ago, the NBA wanted to honor Kobe Bryant. He declined. He couldn’t attend. His reason: his daughter Gianna Bryant had a game that morning. “Tha...

Pro Sports’ First Jersey Retirement – Maple Leafs, Ace Bailey, 1934

The tradition of retiring a jersey number has grown over the years, expanding to every major sports league in North America. It’s a homage to athletes who reach an elite level. Some of the most recognizable numbers in pro sports cannot be worn again by a given team, such as Michael Jordan’s 23, retired by the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat. Other numbers have been retired league-wide, such as Wayne Gretzky’s 99 and Jackie Robinson’s 42. This has led to great debates about who should have their ...

Solving the mystery behind the night Michael Jordan wore a nameless No. 12 jersey 30 years ago

Jordan was obviously a famous player,” says Sam Smith, the Hall of Fame sportswriter and author of “The Jordan Rules” who covered the Bulls for the Chicago Tribune then and still does now for NBA.com, “but the jersey number wasn't quote iconic yet because the Bulls hadn't won anything. At the very least, the person responsible for stealing Jordan's No. jersey from Orlando Arena's visitors' locker room prior to the Bulls' game against the Magic on Feb. 14, 1990 shoul...

Report: Buddy Hield still upset in Sacramento after Luke Walton benched him, may request trade

Buddy Hield isn't happy in Sacramento and could be close to requesting a trade, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Sam Amick and Jason Jones. Hield — a former No. 6 overall draft pick — was pulled from the starting lineup last month and replaced with Bogdan Bogdanovic, a move coach Luke Walton insisted wasn't a punishment but rather an effort to snap a six-game losing streak. The Kings beat the Chicago Bulls that first night, and Hield dropped 21 points off the bench.

Jaylen Brown has perfect response to Celtics' place in NBA standings

The Boston Celtics are in a pretty good place in the NBA standings, but Jaylen Brown is not satisfied. The C's enter Monday night's game against the Chicago Bulls in second place in the Eastern Conference thanks to a slight edge in win percentage over the Miami Heat. My Vet: Gary Payton on battling Michael Jordan and the extinction of NBA guards like The Glove

“Everyone has a vet.” That statement from Kevin Garnett has stuck with me. From 1994-2002, Gary Payton made the All-NBA roster and the All-Defensive First Team each season, finishing a 17-year Hall of Fame career ranked third all-time in steals and sixth in assists. The No. 2 overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics in 1990, Payton played in three NBA Finals, famously taking Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls to six games in 1996 and winning alongside Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade on the...

Luke Doncic has more 30-point triple-doubles than the entire NBA, but they're 'just stats' to him

We now know it's possible for Luka Doncic to be bored by his own prodigious talent. The Dallas Mavericks' young star nailed down his league leading 11th triple-double of the season on Monday night in a win against the Chicago Bulls, finishing the game with 38 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. It was also his ninth 30-point triple-double of the season, the most in the entire NBA — by a lot.

Doncic's big 3rd quarter leads Mavericks over Bulls 118-110

It wasn't the 38 points, the 11 rebounds or the 10 assists from Luka Doncic that most impressed his coach on Monday night. Doncic scored 21 points in the third quarter and had his NBA-leading 11th triple-double of the season to lead the Dallas Mavericks past the Chicago Bulls 118-110 Monday night. Doncic scored 17 of the Mavs' 19 points in the final 5:35 of the third to break open what had been a tie game.
