Kyle Larson didn't want to go 'there' with race. One word made sure he did

Take it from one of Nascar’s rare black writers: the sport has far deeper issues over race than one driver’s use of the n-wordRace has always been a tricky subject for Kyle Larson. But, alas, we could not avoid it. He was the biracial Japanese-American phenom who hadn’t just reached Nascar’s highest rung but was being touted as the second coming of Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon … by Hall of Famer Jeff Gordon. And I am the rare black writer who covers motorsports on a national level. We have to go th...

NASCAR's Larson fired after sponsors walk over N-word slur

As sponsor after sponsor dropped Kyle Larson after he used a racial slur during a live-streamed virtual race, his NASCAR team owner was backed into a corner. Chip Ganassi could let McDonald's and Credit One Bank and Chevrolet pull their funding and bankrupt his team or he could cut ties with the driver he had plucked from sprint car racing and groomed into an elite stock car driver. It was essentially out of Ganassi's hands.

Penske: NASCAR Gen-7 should learn from IndyCar's cost controls

Penske, who runs multi-car teams in both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NTT IndyCar Series, says the lessons learned by IndyCar in reducing its costs-per-car should be taken on board as NASCAR plans the extent of its new platform. Both he and fellow IndyCar team chief Chip Ganassi are believed to have lobbied for similar cost reductions in NASCAR during recent meetings over the scope of the Gen-7 car. “You can run a team [in IndyCar] for $3-4million, depending what you're paying y...
