What’s your favorite type of finish for your eyeshadow?

Really rich, smooth metallics–the kind that are bright and shiny but very, very smooth so they look almost “melted” on the skin. — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Tom Ford Throb & Synthetica Lip Sparks Reviews & Swatches

Throb Tom Ford Beauty Throb Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a bright, light-medium orange with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of gold and pink sparkle throughout. It had a more glittery finish with a high-shine to it, but it wasn’t as glitter-packed as other shades in the formula. The texture was lightweight, creamy, and had moderate slip, but there were a few areas where I felt like the sparkle/shimmer added and created ...

Christine and the Queens’ ‘La Vita Nuova’: EP Review

With stellar albums from Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Selena Gomez and Grimes over the past few months, it’s been a hot stretch for the genre inaccurately but conveniently labelled “alt-pop” — and joining the group is this surprise release from France’s Christine and the Queens, who recently collaborated with two of the above artists. Her […]

Stream Christine And The Queens’ Surprise La Vita Nuova EP Feat. Caroline Polachek

Earlier this month, Christine And The Queens returned with "People, I've been sad," her first song of the new year following last year's Chris LP and the Charli XCX duet "Gone." As it turns out, "People, I've been sad" wasn't just a one-off single; it's the first track of a whole … More »

ColourPop Ticklish & Tied Up Lux Glosses Reviews & Swatches

Ticklish Colour Pop Ticklish Lux Gloss ($8.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a very light peach with warmer, more orange undertones and a dusting of sparkle over a creamier finish. It had sheer coverage in a single layer, which wasn’t buildable. The texture was lightweight, smooth, and felt plusher without being heavy or thick on my lips. For as pale and as milky as the finish was, I was surprised it didn’t apply worse, but it could have went on...

What’s your favorite type of finish for your blush?

I love some shimmer in my blush, though I don’t usually need it to be intensely shimmery (as I’ll use a highlighter to add more shine/shimmer). I find satin and pearl finishes to be underrated, generally, but particularly for blush formulas. It’s the type of finish that adds subtle sheen but... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Chanel Camelias d’Eau Lip Palette Review & Swatches

Camelias d'Eau Chanel Camelias d’Eau Lip Palette ($60.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that includes lipsticks in fuchsia, pink, plum, and red. They’re in the Rouge Allure formula, though I found that they were a little bit less emollient, luminous, and hydrating compared to most shades I’ve tried in the regular twist-up tubes, which seemed to result in a bit less line-smoothing than I’ve experienced in the past, t...

Dior Coral (004) Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Review & Swatches

Coral (004) Dior Coral (004) Backstage Rosy Glow Blush ($37.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a light-medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. Once applied and blended out, the finish was very skin-like–not flat matte but not overly shimmery or even pearlescent to the eye. The powder felt smooth to the touch, dense and firm a bit, but it wasn’t stiff to work with and picked up well with a brush. It had opaque color coverage ...

Giorgio Armani Mahogany (601) Lip Maestro Review & Swatches

Mahogany (601) Giorgio Armani Mahogany (601) Lip Maestro ($38.00 for 0.22 oz.) is a deep burgundy with neutral-to-warm undertones and barely-there pearl strewn through a more cream-like finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which went on fairly evenly and wasn’t noticeably in my lip lines–I couldn’t see the settling in person but I can see it in the close-up photo. It could have been more pigmented and applied a bit more evenl...

ColourPop Nude Mood Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Nude Mood Colour Pop Nude Mood 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($14.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, Ulta-exclusive neutral palette featuring warm-toned bronzes and browns across matte and shimmer finishes. For those still on the hunt for an affordable, warm-toned palette, this is a nice one to consider. It should be easy to work with whether you like more pigment or to build up the coverage bit by bit. What do you look for in a seasonal collection?

I like something that seems edited but still has some variety, and I like seeing a theme. Part of wanting to see variety in color is that I want to see products that can work across skin tones. Example: if a brand is going to release a blush, I don’t want to see something that is a shade that will... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Urban Decay Wired 24/7 Eyeliners Reviews & Swatches

Vivid Urban Decay Vivid 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (Eyeliner) ($22.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium blue with moderate, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was easily built up to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was creamy, smooth, and comfortable to work with as it didn’t tug or pull on my lash line. It applied evenly to both my water line as well as my...

Hot Fix NARS Hot Fix 4-Pan Cheek Palette ($49.00 for 0.76 oz.) is a new, limited edition cheek palette exclusively available through Nordstrom. Fenty Beauty Navy or Die Flypencil Eyeliner Review & Swatches

Navy or Die Fenty Beauty Navy or Die Flypencil Longwear Eyeliner ($22.00 for 0.01 oz.) is a deep navy blue with cool undertones and a subtle, pearl finish. The texture was smooth, creamy without being too emollient or wet; it actually dried down very quickly, so it wasn’t the most smudgeable formula one could reach for, but it did set into place and stay on well. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single, fluid stroke, which ...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to mascara?

One of my pet peeves is mascara that applies a little differently every day (or every few days), which is sort of the issue I have with foundations (and why I don’t get excited about until after sustained use). Wetter mascaras that tend to clump up during application are usually more work then... — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Tom Ford Commando & Starstruck Lip Sparks Reviews & Swatches

Commando Tom Ford Beauty Commando Lip Spark ($55.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a soft, light-medium copper with moderate, warm undertones paired with multi-colored pearl (leaned slightly more gold/pink in pearl to my eye) that gave it a high-shine, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips. From the bullet, I didn’t feel the texture from the pearl/sparkle, and of t...

Dior Pink (001) Backstage Rosy Glow Blush Review & Swatches

Pink (001) Dior Pink (001) Backstage Rosy Glow Blush ($37.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a pop of cotton candy pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with minimal effort. As I buffed and blended out the color on my cheeks, it had a true satin finish–not shimmery but not matte either, just skin-like and glowing. The texture felt firmer and almost thin t...

ColourPop Blissful, Come Thru, Dream Queen Lux Glosses Reviews & Swatches

Blissful Colour Pop Blissful Lux Gloss ($8.00 for 0.16 oz.) is a light pink-coral with flecks of gold and pink pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage that applied evenly with minimal settling in my lip lines (but there was a bit!) with a smattering of pearl, so it was more of a shiny gloss than a shimmery one applied. The texture was smooth, plush, and comfortable to wear for the two and a half hours it lasted for. Top Dupes Formula ...

What do you like about sheet masks? What don’t you like?

Tell us what you love and hate about... Sheet Masks They feel really wasteful to me since they are single-use… but they are more economical to someone like me who can be inconsistent about using a face mask in a jar, so it ensures that the product is fresh, I only buy what I need, etc. It is a nice way to have several different types of masks available for use without having to buy several jars, too. — Christine Join Discussion ...

What are your deal-breakers when it comes to fragrance?

I’m not keen on sugary, gourmand scents, and I’m not a fan of sweet, fruity scents generally. I tend to prefer woodier scents, and if I diverge, then things dominated by citrus, lavender, and greenery. I rarely have issues with longevity, so most fragrances last long enough for my needs. — Christine Join Discussion [Author: Christine]

Chanel Rosy Light Drops Le Blanc Highlighting Fluid Review & Swatches

Rosy Light Drops Chanel Rosy Light Drops Le Blanc Highlighting Fluid ($50.00 for 1 oz.) is a pale pink with very fine, pearl throughout that had a lightly dewy, luminous sheen for its finish. It had sheer to semi-sheer coverage that was buildable to semi-sheer to medium at best, but it was described as a “sheer liquid highlighter” so it lived up to expectations. The brand said that the liquid highlighter could be “worn alone or lay...

Coral NABLA Cosmetics Coral Cutie Palette ($24.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, permanent six-pan palette that featured two matte shades, three metallic shades, and one more satin shade.
