Someone made a live album remix that takes the music out of concerts

I have a fond memory of my band driving 2 hours to a gig in the summer of 2007 and listening to NOFX's I Heard They Suck LIVE! album. Except we fast-forwarded through all the songs — we had kind of gotten over NOFX by that point — and just listening to the hilariously vulgar talking parts (which of course, we had all memorized by then). — Read the rest

LA’s Greek Theater reopening to celebrate its belated 90th birthday with Joe Bonamassa

Two decades ago, blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Joe Bonamassa was a struggling musician, cooped up in his apartment near the corner of Los Feliz Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, watching the tour buses of rock bands rumble by on their way up to perform at the Greek Theatre. While the Greek has remained iconic, other things do change: Bonamassa is now headlining the venue on Sunday, Aug. 1 as it kicks off its 2021 season and celebrates its postponed 90th anniversary. Kaskade, with help from Deadmau5, throws dance party to officially open SoFi Stadium

Music producer and DJ Kaskade played the first full show at the shiny new SoFi Stadium on Saturday, thrilling tens of thousands of fans with two hours of dance music and a surprise appearance by his friend and fellow DJ Deadmau5. Consider it a successful real-life stress test for the Inglewood venue: It handled the massive bass beats dropped by Kaskade and the dancing that shook the first two levels of the stadium, so surely it has enough concrete and rebar to take anything that fans of the Rams...

Kool & the Gang celebrate as the Hollywood Bowl reopens for first post-pandemic public concert

As the bassist in the band, Robert “Kool” Bell usually hangs out toward the back of the stage, and that’s where he was most of the night as Kool & the Gang opened the Hollywood Bowl’s season on Saturday. But when Bell, who co-founded the band in 1964, did step to the front early in the show, it was to note the significance of live music’s return to this historic venue after more than a year lost to pandemic and quarantines. “I gotta say, hey, hey, hey!” Bell said with a sly smile to the cheers o...
