Cole Beasley: Cowboys' front office 'pushes who they want to get the ball to'

Most Dallas Cowboys fans were glad to see that the team parted ways offensive coordinator Scott Linehan last week, and presumably some players were too. But at least one Cowboys receiver says touches weren't dictated by the game plan or the defense, but rather the front office. The front office pushes who they want' Cole Beasley, who just finished his seventh season with Dallas, was interacting with fans on Twitter on Tuesday, and began with one asking how his ankle was feeling.

New Orleans attorney files lawsuit over ending of Saints/Rams game

Welcome to the Tuesday edition of The Cooler, where Saints fans aren't really taking things all that well. Let's get to it: *A couple of people have suggested to me that the closest local parallel to the ending of the Saints/Rams game is the Drew Pearson touchdown catch for the Cowboys in the 1975 playoffs, which stunned the Vikings. In Dallas, it's called a Hail Mary. In Minnesota, it's called a push-off. I can see some similarities in that a non-call on pass interference directly influenced bo...

Will Jerry Jones finally make a run at Sean Payton?

Last week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made reference to opportunities that may arise next week when discussing his coaching staff. Some insist that Jones was referring not to coach Jason Garrett, but to offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. The fact that the Cowboys fired Linehan last week would tend to undermine that argument, however.

Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper named to Pro Bowl in place of Drew Brees, Michael Thomas

Quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper of the Dallas Cowboys were named to the Pro Bowl on Monday. Prescott and Cooper will take the place of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and wide receiver Michael Thomas, who bowed out of the game due to injuries. The trade of Cooper to Dallas from the Oakland Raiders in October completely altered the trajectory of the Cowboys season.

Alexander: In Rams’ case, the bandwagon effect isn’t bad at all

Usually we sneer, or at least look askance, at those “bandwagon” fans who become interested in a team just as it reaches the big stage. The normal inclination is to ask, “Well, where were you during the long, hard slog of the regular season?” But not here, and not now. If you are a new (or renewed) Rams fan, excited because of the first Super Bowl involving an L.A. team in 35 years (and the first involving an L.A. Rams team in 39 years) … well, welcome aboard. I’m guessing they won’t even ask, “...

Kartje: In the NFL playoffs, there’s no place like home

Exactly six years ago, on a chilly night in Foxboro, Massachusetts, the Baltimore Ravens unseated the mighty New England Patriots in the AFC championship, stamping their ticket to the Super Bowl. An aggressive Ravens defense intercepted Tom Brady twice, and soon-to-be Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco threw three unanswered, second-half touchdowns to pull off an unexpected upset in the Patriots’ own stadium. That was the last time a road team won a conference championship game. In the 10 AFC or NFC titl...

Stephen Jones: No one we'd like back more than Sean Lee

After the Cowboys lost to the Rams, linebacker Sean Lee said that he'd take some time to figure out if he will continue to play and then followed up a couple of days later to say that he's leaning toward another year on the field. It doesn't sound like the Cowboys are going to push him in a different direction. Executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that there is “no one we would love to have back more” than their 2010 second-round pick.

How Aaron Kromer has Rams offensive line surging at precisely the right time

THOUSAND OAKS – Aaron Kromer was mid-flight, somewhere between New Orleans and San Francisco, when his best shot at an NFL head coaching job slipped away, unbeknownst to him. It was January 2012, and the Saints were set to play the 49ers that Sunday in the divisional round. In his third season as the Saints offensive line coach, Kromer had built one of the NFL’s most stalwart fronts. His impressive work garnered the attention of teams around the league, none more so than the St. Louis Rams, who ...
