Damon Albarn – “The Tower Of Montevideo”

In about a month, the Blur/Gorillaz leader Damon Albarn will release his new solo album The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows, which he originally conceived as an orchestral piece about Icelandic landscapes. Thus far, Albarn has already shared a big handful of tracks from that LP: the title track, “ ,” “Particles,” “Royal Morning Blue.” Today, Albarn has also dropped “The Tower Of Montevideo,” a new track inspired by an edifice built in the ’20s in the capital of Uruguay.

Damon Albarn – “Particles”

Damon Albarn is in the middle of a long rollout for his new solo album The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows. He’s thus far shared the title track and “ ,” and he interrupted the proceedings last week with a new three-song Gorillaz EP. Today he’s back to releasing solo music with a new single called “Particles.” It’s a slow, maudlin, and wistful — a slightly more dystopian-sounding version of a Blur ballad — and you can hear it below.

Gorillaz’s ‘Song Machine: Season One – Strange Timez’ Is a Perfect Pop Tonic for 2020: Album Review

Even as one of music’s most forward-facing artists, Damon Albarn must have been surprised by the prescience of his statement that the 2017 Gorillaz album “Humanz” was a “party record for the world going nuts.” Planet Earth’s apocalyptic shindig was only just beginning but Albarn has always been supernaturally gifted at reading the room, blessed […]

Gorillaz – “The Pink Phantom” (Feat. Elton John & 6LACK)

It might seem strange that Elton John, the legendary piano-pop master who recently condemned the modern practice of songwriting by committee, appears on the new song by Gorillaz, an operation that cycles through a stunning number of collaborators. But considering Damon Albarn seems to be the only permanent musical contributor to Gorillaz, maybe … More »

Gorillaz – “Strange Timez” (Feat. The Cure’s Robert Smith)

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's long-running and eclectic recording project Gorillaz started this year by teasing a project called Song Machine. Gorillaz – “Friday 13th” (Feat. Octavian)

After Damon Albarn revived Gorillaz with 2017's Humanz, the project has been pretty consistently active.
