Fourth of July DIY: An Easy-Breezy Blueberry-Inspired Tablecloth by David Stark

Here’s a DIY tablecloth for Fourth of July that’s so easy that truly anyone—from kindergarteners to the arts-and-crafts-averse—can make it. Perhaps best of all? It’s blessedly understated, which means it can have a life well after the fireworks are over. You don’t need any tools (just a couple new pencils, a box, fabric, and some paint) to make this blueberries-inspired DIY tablecloth. Why blueberries? Aside from the apple, is there a more American fruit? Besides, “July is prime time for this se...

Glitz-Free Glam: Scandi-Inspired DIY Holiday Decor from David Stark

One of our favorite holiday traditions here at Remodelista? Having event designer David Stark dream up some chic and easy-to-make holiday decor for us. This year, he and his team shared DIY projects inspired by a “modern and naturalist-chic” aesthetic that takes cues “from on-trend basketry materials such as rattan, cane, rope, and twine.” “While most people default to glitter and sparkle for holiday decor, we asked ourselves what festive would look like if we focused solely on natural materials...

For the Hostess Procrastinaire: 10 Useful Tips for Stress-Free Entertaining

We needn’t think about entertaining in a binary way: either a fully tricked-out fancy dinner party that requires wedding-level execution or a super-casual gathering that has the vibe of a Super Bowl shindig. There’s room for a bevy of other types of parties, and, to me, the sweet spot resides in that in-between area. A Moody DIY Halloween Tablescape from David Stark

We’re always interested to see what our party planner extraordinaire friend David Stark is up to—especially around the holidays. This Halloween, he and his team came up with a DIY tablescape featuring dried gourds spray painted black. “Our goal was to create an elegant yet appropriately moody black-on-black tablescape using dried gourds—their curvy necks create spooky ghostlike forms. The table is set with black plates, flatware, and glassware, in a mix of glossy and matte; the varying scale of ...

Kitchen of the Week: 11 Genius Ideas to Steal from David Stark’s Brooklyn Heights Kitchen

Francesca and I recently dropped in on our Brooklyn Heights friend David Stark (NYC’s event planner extraordinaire) to check out his kitchen and sleuth out some design tips from the entertaining pro. DIY: A Jewel-Toned Easter Tablescape with Designer David Stark

For Easter this year, NYC event designer David Stark is skipping the standard palette of pale pinks, yellows, and greens and opting instead for a moody, jewel-toned tablescape. The best part? He’s managed to go dark au naturel by dyeing a mix of white and brown eggs using only fruits and vegetables, set against a backdrop of dark blue linens, painted egg cartons, and pewter-hued plates. The Imbalance of Culture Fit

When I started Bearded back in 2008, I’d never run a business before. This lack of experience meant I didn’t know how to do many of the things I’d ultimately have to do as a business owner. One of the things I didn’t know how to do yet? Hiring. When it came time to start hiring employees, I thought a lot about what the company needed to advance, what skills it was lacking. I asked friends for advice, and introductions to people they knew and trusted who fit the bill. And I asked myself what fel...

Realtors: rate hike will make little impact on housing market

Realtors anticipate little change in the Madison housing market following the Federal Reserve's decision to increase interest rates for the first time in a decade. The 0.25 percent rate hike is small enough that it won't impact homebuyers much at all, according to David Stark, president of Stark Company Realtors.
