Slow Pulp – “In Too Deep” (Sum 41 Cover)

A few months ago, we talked to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley for the 20th anniversary of “Fat Lip” and in anticipation of the anniversary of his band’s debut album All Killer No Filler. Apparently we were not the only ones with Sum 41 on our minds! The Chicago Band To Watch Slow Pulp, who released their debut album Moveys last year, have covered Sum 41’s second-biggest single, “In Too Deep.” They’ve also recreated the All Killer No Filler album artwork (see above). Their take on the track is crisp and...

Louis Posen of Van Nuys’ Hopeless Records looks back on 25 years of hard work, good times and punk rock

Hopeless Records started as a mere hobby for Los Angeles native Louis Posen, but it has turned into 25 years of blood, sweat and a whole lot of fun and punk rock music. Back in the early ’90s, Posen was a film student at Cal State Northridge and had just shot a music video for punk rock band NOFX when he was introduced to Huntington Beach band Guttermouth. The group basically dared Posen to put out its latest 7-inch, even though his only knowledge of the business side of music came from a book h...

See who showed up to honor the late Chester Bennington at Linkin Park’s celebration of life at the Hollywood Bowl

If there ever needed to be a moment that reminded people that Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington was one-of-a-kind, it was Friday night at the Hollywood Bowl. A sold-out crowd turned out to cheer on the surviving members of the band as they took the stage for the very first time since Bennington took his own life on July 20 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates. The evening was the celebration of life that the band – keys player and vocalist Mike Shinoda, drummer Rob Bourdon, DJ Joe Hahn and ...

A-Sides with Jon Chattman: Sum 41's Deryck Whibley on New Album, Tour, and His Own Mortality; "Lose Control" with KOPPS' Song Premiere

If you've followed Sum 41 over the last few years you know just how close frontman Deryck Whibley came to leaving us. I won't go into specifics because it's been so well documented (Google it if you will). Instead, I'd rather focus on the singer and the band's recent resurgence. Last fall, the band released their first album in five years entitled 13 Voices and it was met with arguably the best reviews in the pop punk band's career. For Whibley, it's easily his most personal work. He recorded,...

Deryck Whibley Returns To The Stage

Over the weekend there were many concerts happening all over the place, including at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. On Friday night, it was the return of Deryck Whibley to the live stage, his first show since last year when he was in the hospital for organ failure! He played under the name "Deryck Whibley and The Happiness Machines", with Mikey Way on bass guitar.
