The Honeymooners and winter doldrums

The Honeymooners  Oil on wood, 8" x 8," $330. A quick re-post today...  I love "The Honeymooners"  and it didn't photograph very well first time around! So, here's a better photo.  We seem to be takin' a little break here.  I think it's a combination of winter doldrums and flu bug ick (that is letting up) -- oh, and figuring out taxes.  Yeah, no that's not fun.  Mojo, where art thou?! To be continued...as always, thank you for your interest.  [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

The Bean, Coco Puff and Freesias

The Bean  Oil on wood, 8" x 8,"  $330. Coco Bean's claim to fame:  Most painted cat in history, possibly the most photographed as well...  Is it any wonder?!  He's outstanding! Painting these freesias reminded me how much I enjoy painting flowers.  Maybe try some more flowers again soon.  [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

Two of a Kind, two black sibling kittehs

Two of a Kind  Oil on wood, 8" x 8,"  $330. Whenever I paint more than one animal at a time, I start seeing (into?) and thinking about their relationship and their personalities. These are siblings and "Two of a Kind," though I'm pretty sure one has a temperamental nature and the other is just as sweet as the day is long. :) Photo reference courtesy of Robyn at Love and Hisses.  [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

Delilah and my love/hate relationship with the fan brush

Delilah  Oil on wood, 8" x 8,"  $330. Mighty Torti Happy with "Delilah." I took a fan brush to the background of this painting which is always a dicey endeavor...  But I think I'm getting a handle on my love/hate relationship with the ever difficult fan brush. Used sparingly with a light touch-it sometimes obeys, lol.    In other news, my painting, "Mighty Torti" is now available in print form at Fine Art America! Interested?  Here's a link. Dotty Spots and preparing panels

Dotty Spots  Oil on wood, 8" x 8,"  $330. It is difficult to assess values and colors when painting on a white ground...  When preparing panels, I gesso first then (usually the next day) tone them in various misc. colors...  When it comes time to paint, I try to pick a color that will harmonize with what I'm painting...  My inventory of panels was running low whenever I picked this one. I had feared the magenta would clash with "Dotty Spots"--but it worked out pretty good.  If you are...

Barn Cat and petting goats at Farmpark

Barn Cat   Oil on wood, 8" x 8," $330. ...just taking a sleepy ride through the country on the back of a grandfatherly sheep.  "Barn Cat" is another in my "Beast of Burden" paintings.  I keep coming back to these...  Painting the animals so they look companionable (1) and (2) placing them in a convincing and complimentary landscape is a mighty challenge! Also pictured, handsome husband who accompanied me on a shoot at Farmpark in Kirtland, OH.  [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

Sharon the Calico Kitten

Sharon  Oil on wood, 8" x 6,"  $255. Calicos present such a dazzling tri color array of patterns and shapes! No two alike, always a fascinating cat to paint. Special thanks to Robyn at Love and Hisses for the photo inspiration. [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

Lashonda

Lashonda  Oil on wood, 8" x 6,"  $255. Happy New Year! It's great to be painting again after the long break. I'm back on my preferred schedule (Plan several, paint several, blog 'em all at one time as opposed to plan/paint/blogging one at a time.) and hope to maintain that this year. I look forward to sharing the first few with you this week.  Today, "Lashonda" who waits for adoption at the Cleveland APL!  [Author: Diane Hoeptner]

Cutest

Cutest  Oil on panel, 8" x 10,"  $410. I had a sort of rule whenever I realized painting cats was gonna be a thing for me.  The "rule" was fueled by a vaguely guilty (?) feeling for choosing such a generally common and popular subject...  I told myself I'd steer clear of anything cliche...  and to me that meant "cute." Several years later and here we have what is surely the cutest kitten to ever walk the planet earth. I'm not sorry.  ..another  (successfully adopted!) foster kitty fr...

Brother's Keeper, Love and Hisses

Brother's Keeper  Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  $330. If you notice anything "extra" in today's painting and maybe several to follow, it's thanks to Robyn at Love and Hisses.  Robyn fosters kittens and cats from her beautiful home in Huntsville, AL.  She takes incredible photographs of them, romping, resting and doin' what they do in a relaxed environment. She has honored me with permission to use her photos as painting reference. Thank you, Robyn!! Find more of Robyn's kitty goodness on Faceb...

Spotted Bunny III and Richeson75 icky brew

Spotted Bunny III  Oil on panel, 8" x 6," $255. I feel like some of these little hopping creatures are like aliens from outer space, especially this one. :)  An update: "Napping Kittens" did not win any awards in the Richeson75 competition. I know I should rejoice in the fact that my painting was a finalist and I do... Also, I thought the judging was fair. Before I saw my competitors paintings, I thought I might win something.  After I saw them (here) I suspected I had about a snowball'...

Spotted Bunny II  Oil on panel, 8" x 6,"  $255. I'm so pleased to have a (cat) painting accepted into the Academy of Graphic Communications (AGC) 52 Weeks 52 Works Annual Desk Calendar. The calendar showcases the work of Northeast Ohio artists and has been published since 2001.  In related news, an exhibit at the Fawick Art Gallery at Baldwin Wallace College will have a selection of the work accepted on exhibit through the end of this month. I seem to be on a roll with the bunnies thi...

Spotted Bunny and my 2019 Calendar

Spotted Bunny Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  $330. I'm especially happy with this painting.  Using enough paint to go around is so important! Also mixing more/different for in between areas.  A few of you have asked about calendars.  I opted out of self publishing one this year...  But you can still get one!  The Current Catalog is offering a 2019 calendar of my paintings titled "The Painted Cat." It's  remarkably less expensive than the ones I make myself.   Also of note they go on sale Nove...

The Scoop, also Before and Afters of my Kitchen Overhaul

The Scoop  Oil on panel, 8" x 8,"  $330. Thought I'd share a few kitchen pics.  Besides a few minor tweaks, it is done!  Sink Wall Before and After, click to enlarge! The old counters had a sort of chrome liner, they were a beast to rip out. (So says, the Home Depot guy.) But the cabinets below held up pretty good! They were able to fit the back splash part around existing electric outlets. Kitchen Corner Before and After, click to enlarge! I had considered wallpa...
