There’s a new carousel in town, and it’s about to open. World of Color returns to the Disneyland Resort after a long absence

A large crowd whooped and cheered Friday night, Feb. 22, as the popular World of Color spectacle returned to Disney California Adventure, in its first official soft opening after an accident shut it down for 10 months. It was an unusually cold night for Anaheim, but perhaps 1,000 people stuck it out until 10 p.m. — park closing time — to view the 22-minute-long water-sound-and-light show featuring Disney movie characters such as the Lion King, Aladdin, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Dory and more. “It w...

Will Disney ever build a Wakanda theme park land?

If “Black Panther” wins the Academy Award for best picture this weekend, I wish the producers behind the Marvel super hero movie would celebrate their Oscar by shouting “I’m going to Disneyland!” Because there’s no film location out there right now that I’d rather see re-created as a theme park land than Wakanda. Sure, Disneyland is getting a new Star Wars land this summer. Then a Stark Industries-themed super hero land is coming to Disney California Adventure the year after that. No one would b...

Mandarin Orange Green Tea Tarts (Disney Copycat Recipe)

This year, I headed to Disney California Adventure – Disneyland’s neighboring park and home to many fun food events at Disneyland Resort – to check out their Lunar New Year celebration. I tasted a wide variety of sweet and savory items, and I left inspired to try to recreate one of my favorites at home: the Mandarin Orange Green Tea Tarts. The reason I chose the Mandarin Orange Green Tea Tarts, which I picked up at the Lucky 8 Lantern marketplace, is that it really exceeded my expectations for ...

While crowds are expected to mob Disneyland this summer for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney resort executives don’t want you to forget about their other Anaheim park across the plaza, especially since some annual passholders who would otherwise head to Disneyland will be blocked out under the new two-park system. A Few Reasons NOT to Avoid Disneyland at Christmas

I was certainly excited to visit the Disneyland Resort during the Christmas holiday season, but I was also nervous. As a Southern California native, I visited Disneyland many times growing up and always had a blast, whether I was with my friends of my family. I took many years off of visiting the park, but recently started going again and picked up an annual pass so that I could take my time enjoying all that the Disneyland parks have to offer. I spent a day this week in Disney’s California Adventure to try out some of their new Lunar New Year Food options. One of my favorite things about Disney California A...

How will Disneyland manage crowds for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge?

Managing a theme park such as Disneyland is like playing a game of “Tetris” that never ends. People flood into the parks in ever-varying numbers, forcing managers to find creative ways to make them fit. After all, the last thing that any business wants to do is turn away a paying customer. Last week Disney invited a few reporters, including me, to walk the park before it opened with the park managers, who pointed out several of the changes that Disneyland has been making to accommodate its ever-...
