Pack Swimsuit, Mask, California Welcomes Back Tourists

SAN DIEGO (AP) — There will be no packed double-decker safari buses with tour guides rolling through the San Diego Zoo, nor animal shows that draw crowds — nor breakfast buffets at hotels. Instead, hotels are adorning lobbies with hand sanitizing dispensers and will be limiting how many people lounge by pools. And the zoo is putting entertainers on its double-decker buses to hold moving shows while people stand on green circles to keep them six feet apart. Every visitor over the age of two will ...

32 Days of Halloween XII, Day 6: The Ape!

For tonight and our #TrackoftheDay, we start with some classic Pink Floyd. There are two songs that spring to mind for a Halloween type endeavor: “One of These Days” and “Careful With That Axe, Eugene.” We’ve gone with the latter. This is from the Live From Pompeii film in all of its David Attenborough documentary-on-acid glory. And now, I couldn’t help but seek this out after seeing pictures taken by your friend and mine, Misty Lee. It’s from Disney California Adventure Park, where the...

Kids race to climb aboard skunks, snakes and buzzards on Jessie’s Critter Carousel at Disney California Adventure

The backward-facing skunk with his tail up in the air is one of the first critters young kids race toward when they clamor aboard the new Jessie’s Critter Carousel in Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure. “Turning the skunk around, just knowing how skunks operate, that’s probably the dangerous end first,” said Pixar’s Steve Mason, who worked on the new attraction. “It just felt that would be a real blast if somebody’s got to ride a skunk backwards.” Spencer Phillips, 24, made a special ...

Is Disneyland the most vegan-friendly theme park in America?

Don’t eat corn dogs or burgers? The Disneyland Resort has been named the most vegan-friendly theme park in America, by PETA —People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.  The announcement attracted the attention of many, even august foodie magazines such as Food & Wine, which usually show little interest in amusement park fare. “Once upon a time, theme park food meant hamburgers, hot dogs, and turkey legs. Times have changed, and so have menus,” People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wrote ...

Stay in the Middle of the Magic at the Disneyland Hotel, Anaheim

My head hit the pillow and I snuggled down into a soft cloud. Oh My goodness this bed is comfortable. I felt the exhaustion drain out of my body and my last thoughts before slipping into dreams of magic carpet rides was, “Oh this is exactly what the body needs after a long day at Disneyland.” And then at 5:05 I woke up. No alarms needed. I felt refreshed, alert and in awe of how I had slept like a log (not a baby as they don’t sleep). The girls had succumbed to the comfort that evening as well....
