Lumberjack 3

The third lumberjack is the last for now. I’ve got a lot of prep work on my desk right now- sewing, cutting, and even getting out the dyes. I’m revving up for a new year that seems so very uncertain. But I will continue to make because that’s what keeps me sane! Spotty hair. George Washington on his chest. A wooden button because he is a lumberjack!

2nd doll is another Lumberjack

After I took all the pics, I found his axe on the floor- so I had to take some additional pics. I can’t believe that I didn’t notice! And so here he is with his axe and his hat on too. 2 faces- His arm tats, more faces-

First Doll for 2021- a Lumberjack

A ginger-haired beefy lumberjack to start off a new year. I didn’t give him a hat because I like his hair too much to cover it up. Classic toile tattoos on his chest and arms. A nice old button on his belt and embroidered buttons on his shirt.

2020 dolls in review

I do a review every year although sometimes it happens a little late (like this year). What a crazy day- I was a bit reluctant to post this today with the high of the win in Georgia followed by the madness in Washington. But I will do it anyway because who knows what tomorrow will bring. And honestly, maybe posting about a crazy year is best done on a crazy day. 1. Tiny World Pincushion 2, 2. Tiny World Pincushion 1, 3. Tiny World pincushion 3, 4. Tiny World Fairy House pincushion, 5. Ti...

Red Kilt and Cherubs

It can be a real challenge to come up with titles for these posts- hence, sometimes the odd ones! This handsome fellow has cherubs on his chest! And a stag on his back. Here is what his hair looks like in back-

Red-Haired Man in a Kilt

He also has a cashmere scarf because it’s winter. His “tattoos” are a great classic toile design. Countryside idyll. His kilt has some tiny antique 3-hole glass buttons. And underneath…

A Fancy Man

I’m do the handwork/finishing on some tattooed men that are already sewn up so it is going to be a bit all over the place. The first fellow is fancy because of his colorful tattoos and blue-green boots! So many skeletons! He has an antique button on his belt.

Merman #4

He is browner than the above picture shows. I hope it is clearer in the other photos. An epic nautical battle on his chest and arms, and a beaded belt. Here is a close-up of the back of his hair-

Another Blue Merman

There is going to be 3 blue ones in all, in case you were wondering. That was how many were in my already sewed up pile and need to be finished. When I started working on this fellow, I was thinking he looked like a fancy Miami Beach Merman with his floral tail and coral-patterned ferns. I tried out some pinky-purple hair but it just wasn’t working for me. In the end, I choose some icy-green and it turned him into a much more serious fellow. He is is obviously from the warmer climes! ...

Red-Haired Merman

I have had a few requests for a red-haired merman so I hope whoever wanted one, see this! I’ve gone back through comments and messages but can not find what I am looking for. He has silver-y green eyes. Octopus on his chest and arms. Stitching and belt on rick rack- And fabric that looks like it would be excellent water-y camouflage for his fins and tail. Back view of his hair-

A Blue Merman for November

I am planning to work on tattooed people for a while- probably up to the New Year. I have a lot already dyed and sewed up so now I get to focus on the fun part! First up is some Mermen. His very light hair didn’t show up very well in the photos. Here is a view from the other side. Kelp on his chest and arms and a sea glass button. I picked a very dark variegated thread to embroider onto the rick rack- it plays on the dark red-purple and black of the fins.. ...

White Kitty in a Party Dress

Her dress is made of vintage Liberty lawn that I inherited from my mom. She is very fancy with her silk bow and cashmere sweater. Here is a close-up of her purse- and her sweater. The sweater has antique 3-hole buttons. I will be putting the 4 kitties into my Etsy shop today. I have one more, but it is pouring rain today so no photos yet.

Throwback to hippie days

This little cat was inspired by some Indian print fabric scraps that my neighbor gave me. They look like bits of clothing and bedspreads that everyone I knew was wearing and using for decor back in the late 60’s/70’s. Of course no one I knew would have been wearing a cashmere sweater! She has a purse/bag just like I used to use. I would have made a macrame fringe but it was just too tiny so I settled for knots. Also a cool bead necklace. She is...

Herringbone Kitty

He is out for a long walk with a daypack and a map. It can be a challenge to get the facial features to show up on a patterned fabric! He has a lovely soft yellow cashmere sweater under his jacket. And here is a close-up of his jacket. You can see the snaps under the buttons. Also, his hankie and map. Close-up of his pack- his notebook, money, and snack. Off on an adventure!

Fancy Tuxedo Cat

Time for some kitties! This handsome tuxedo cat fellow is all dressed up for a Holiday party. He has a velvet bow tie. And a fancy black and white wool jacket; with pockets and of course things in the pockets. There is a linen hankie, a notebook, and some other little bits. Under his jacket he is wearing a bright red plaid vest/waistcoat. It has a pocket for his pocket watch.

Weekend blizzard to smack Montana with reality check

After witnessing record-breaking snowfall in mid-October, residents of Montana are likely to get another reminder of the brutality of the state's winter weather as forecasters are predicting that a blizzard will unfold over the weekend. Native residents are familiar with Montana's long winters, with winter storms, and even blizzards, occurring as early as October and as late as May. Just this past month, records fell across the western United States as a historic cold snap buried some ci...

Fox Girl in a Daisy dress

This dress is also made with Liberty fabric but I bought it in NYC at PurlSoho when we were there in January and life was old normal. I put a little rabbit bead on her bag. I’ve had it for years so it is time to find a place for it.

Fox girl in a Liberty Dress

Her dress is Liberty of London cotton lawn- lucky her! She is also wearing a cashmere cardigan and a lacy shawl. Do you want to know about the fabrics? When the pandemic started and we were first staying home (not at all unusual for me), I ordered up a bunch of new Liberty fabric (from here) because why not. Retail therapy, presents in the mail and all. The cashmere sweater was cut from a much bigger sweater that had holes in it. Her shawl is from a scrap of lace curtain that I got from my ...

Northeastern US to take another early hit from winter into Monday night

Residents across the Northeast may feel like the calendar has flipped to December as opposed to November, with forecasters predicting cold winds and a healthy dose of snow for some early this week. A potent cold front was making its presence felt across the Great Lakes region early Sunday, bringing blustery rain showers across the lower part of Michigan and lake-effect snow in its wake across the Upper Peninsula. Gusty showers will spread southeastward with the front across the Northeast through...

Big Night Out Fox

This fine fellow is all ready for a big night out. Yes, he has a big date tonight! He is wearing a black wool jacket and a vest underneath. A linen hankie in his pocket and a black bowtie. And of course he is bringing some flowers. Here is his vest with tiny antique glass buttons. He has a watch so he won’t be late and his wallet in his pocket. I pinned the flowers onto his sleeve.

Foxes Ahead!

Another Garden Dog

This fellow looks more like a BBC-presenter-gardener than a putter-around-the-allotment gardener. Takes all kinds, right?! I am really having fun with these faux Fair Isle sweaters. Although, embroidering on cashmere is not easy. In case you are wondering, he holds his basket with a hook and eye fastener. The hook is sewn into the cuff of his shirt. Here are all the things in his trug/garden basket- And here is a random photo from my walk today....

Beach Boy Hound

Here he is, ready to spend a relaxing day at the beach. I have had that tropical print seersucker in my stash for a long while and I am so happy to have found the perfect use for it. Here is all his stuff- his ukulele, beach basket, towel, etc. Hanging out in the sun alone (above) and with his lady friend (below).

Beach pups

Time has been so crazy in 2020. Summer went by so fast. These next 2 pups are about summer fun. I made them as a couple but they probably won’t stay that way. I will show you all of the ladypup details today. Tomorrow for the manpup. Here she is in her tropical print shirt and skirt. She has a flowered sunhat and her basket of beach supplies. A button at the back of her skirt. And here she is with all her stuff-

Will the Atlantic basin churn out yet another storm this week?

As Delta's rain spreads across the eastern United States, AccuWeather meteorologists are turning their attention to a tropical wave cruising across the tropical Atlantic this week. As of Sunday morning, the tropical wave was centered around 1,200 miles east of the Windward Islands and was moving to the west. Satellite imagery revealed that the feature was producing disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity and had yet to form a circulation center at the low levels of the atmosphere, an i...

Mr. Detective Dog

Gardening Hound

Have you done any pandemic projects? I have. Mine has been to propagate some plant babies… actually a whole lot of plant babies. I have a tiny forest of myrtle trees that I hope to attempt to train into topiary (eventually) and many many baby streptocarpus plants which will hopefully bloom one day. Then I can figure out which plant I took the cuttings from since I forgot to label them! Anyway, what does that have to do with this gardening dog? When I wanted to see if I could make the baby s...
