Above The Neck? The Mudslinging Between Bloomberg And Trump Confusingly Escalates

The feud between President Trump and Mike Bloomberg appears to be escalating. Trump kicked off Thursday morning with with tweet taking aim at Bloomberg, reminding him of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush during the 2016 presidential campaign cycle and calling the former New York mayor a “5’4′ mass of dead energy.” Trump also seemed to take aim at the backlash Bloomberg has recently faced over his controversial “stop and frisk” policing policy, despite the President supporting the policy himself. M...

There’s No Resurgence In American Manufacturing. It’s A Myth.

This article is part of TPM Cafe, TPM’s home for opinion and news analysis. In a towering act of sycophantry, the National Association of Manufacturers announced Friday that it will be giving Ivanka Trump the organization’s first ever Alexander Hamilton Award for “extraordinary support of manufacturing in America.” The organization made the outrageous claim that “no one”  — no one! — has ever “provided singular leadership and shown an unwavering commitment to modern manufacturing in America” l...

Alexander: After a muted buzz, a Super Bowl that delivers

The world according to Jim: • After a tremendously difficult week, this was the Super Bowl we needed. Maybe it was a weird form of closure, Kansas City’s come-from-behind victory over San Francisco on Sunday in Super Bowl LIV. It might not seem that way in the Bay Area, where 49ers fans can now have just as grumpy an offseason as Rams fans did a year ago (and can second-guess their head coach just as intensely, if not more so). But elsewhere, after a week of grappling with the tragic deaths of n...

Manager: Conor McGregor keeping his options open with three fights planned in 2020

Conor McGregor plans to stay busy in 2020, but he's not singling out any particular opponent for his next fight this year. It took the former two-division champion 40 seconds to dispatch Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246, but afterwards McGregor refused to call anybody out by name. Instead, McGregor just shouted that all the “mouthy fools” who had been asking to fight him can get it.

Trump impeachment: Based on attacks and half-truths, president’s defence strategy is vintage Donald

Senators heard the contours of an impeachment defence strategy on Saturday that promises to be vintage Donald Trump: Bold, personal, on the attack – and always thinking about his re-election bid.Within moments of the Trump defence team beginning their case, the tone of the trial changed. They spoke in more pointed tones, at times almost repeating Mr Trump’s tweets and fiery lines at political rallies, official events and over the loud hum of Marine One on the White House’s South Lawn. Finding the One Decision That Removes 100 Decisions (or, Why I’m Reading No New Books in 2020)

Donald Knuth, a renowned mathematician and recipient of the Turing Award (considered the Nobel Prize of computer science), retired from using email in 1990.  He issued a public statement on his Stanford faculty page, which I saved to Evernote 1–2 years ago. I think of it often, and my favorite portion is below: “I have been a happy man ever since January 1, 1990, when I no longer had an email address. I’d used email since about 1975, and it seems to me that 15 years of email is plenty...
