Yale: White liberals dumb down speech when talking to minorities

The study examined how Democratic and Republican presidential candidates used language when speaking to black and white audiences.A second study focused on how white people use language in emails to strangers with stereotypically white or black names. The lead researcher called the findings "kind of an unpleasant surprise." None White liberals are more likely to use dumbed-down language in conversations with racial minorities, suggests a study recently published in the Journal of Personality and ...

Are there constitutional (and ethical) issues raised by allowing the family of murder victims to hire lawyers to assist prosecutors as "associate attorneys" in capital prosecution?

The question in the title of this post is prompted by this very interesting local article from Kansas headlined "Despite doubts, judge allows private prosecutors in case of two slain deputies."  Here is the story, with one particular line emphasized: Over the objections of defense lawyers, and despite his own misgivings, a Wyandotte County judge said Wednesday he must allow private attorneys to assist in the prosecution of a man charged with killing two sheriff’s deputies. Antoine Fielder, 30, ...

Radio Reporter Who Lost Voice Returns To Air Using App Built From Archived Audio

McGruber writes: Jamie Dupree had been a radio reporter from 1983 until the Spring of 2016, when he lost his voice. His official diagnosis is a rare neurological condition known as "Tongue Protrusion Dystonia" -- for some unknown reason when he tries to talk, his tongue pushes forward out of his mouth, and his throat clenches, leading to a voice that is strangled and strained, as it is a struggle to string together more than a few words at a time. Dupree's plight attracted the attention of Rep. ...

Argument analysis: : Justices grapple with what counts as “money”

If anyone in the courtroom had forgotten that tomorrow is the deadline for filing federal income tax returns, Thomas Dupree, counsel for the petitioners in Wisconsin Central Ltd. v. United States, was there to alert spectators to their tax obligations. “Tax Day is almost upon us,” Dupree noted in his concluding remarks. Rose Dupree – “ConsciousTrap” Vol 1: Streetlight (Album Review)

Texas originated artist Rose Dupree drops a bouncy installment of “ConsciousTrap” Vol 1: Streetlight. From the beginning, I was interested to see the correlations and concepts created from the compelling name of the saga series. The 1st song of the album was titled “Roll In Peace (Slang in Peace)” which set the atmosphere and tempo for the outlook of the album. The production of the record was right on point, fluidly floating around in a comfortable sonic level that Rose Dupree seems to be quit...

Hear What Happens When Avant-Garde Composer Pierre Boulez Conducts Three Frank Zappa Songs

Was Frank Zappa a musical genius? A high modernist, avant-garde composer who just happened to work in an idiomatic pastiche of jazz, classical, progressive rock and juvenile shock tactics? The question can be a deeply divisive one. Zappa tends to inspire either intense devotion or intense dislike. But whatever one’s opinion of the man or his music, it’s safe to say that when he wasn’t working alone, Zappa worked in the company of some incredibly talented musicians. And he attracted, as J...
