France bans VanMoof’s edgy ebike advert for being ‘anti-car’

A television advert from VanMoof, an ebike maker based in the cycling motherland of the Netherlands, has been banned on French TV for a surprisingly contradictory reason. The 45 second ad, which was released earlier this month, pictures a futuristic looking car melting into the ether, as sounds and images of congestion, police cars, riots, crisis, and protest play over the top. For the times we live in, it’s poignant stuff — but it seems too powerful for the French. Check it out below: According...

British motorcycle maker Triumph has a new ebike — and it’s more than a vanity project

In a departure for its normal line of business, an iconic motorcycle maker from Britain has just stuck its name on an ebike — but there’s still no word on an electric motorcycle. Today, Triumph launched its Trekker GT, a surprisingly well-equipped ebike. I say surprisingly because car and motorbike makes have done this kind of thing in the past. Usually, they pick an off-the-shelf frame, throw on some off-the-peg parts, and slap their brand name on it. Triumph’s Trekker GT, though, appears very ...

Danes fish out 181 bicycles, 140 e-scooters, and a dildo from city harbor

People chucking e-scooters in rivers and harbors is nothing new, but Copenhagen seems to be the latest victim of this trend. The mayor of the city is now asking e-scooter companies to take responsibility after more than 100 of them were found discarded in the city’s harbor. As part of the city’s annual two-week harbor cleanup, divers fished out more than 140 e-scooters, 180 bicycles, 47 café chairs, mobile phones, a ladder, an advertising hoarding, and a dildo, Danish outlet CPH Post reports. Fr...

Jeep Will Soon Sell e-Bikes

Spending any amount of time in front of a television or computer screen on Groundhog Day likely resulted in you seeing the new Jeep Gladiator spot starring Bill Murray. The great e-bike experiment: the data

(Previously: A bicycle snob takes on an e-bike) Last time around, we met the e-bike, and discussed how it came to pass. Speed, or lack thereof The first lesson in e-biking is that it isn't really about speed (that is, on a legal in Canada, pedal assist bike). Yes, there are circumstances where you're moving dramatically faster than you would on a non-e-bike. But overall, if you're a s...
