Wait… They Combined Three Helmets in One? Introducing Evojet by Shark

I Think We Just Hit “Peak Modular” I’ve seen claims circulating around the internet about this helmet (the Shark Evojet) being “three types of helmets combined into one”. Personally, I’d say its two and a half but still worth checking out nonetheless. If you’re looking for a lid with an entire zip code worth of visibility real-estate that allows for both open and “full” face modes, search no further. Europe has officially homologated this helmet as both open-face and full-face, so you know some...

Youtuber ‘Mike on Bikes’ Gives Us a Detailed Look Into the History of Helmets

How Much Do You Really Know About Motorcycle Helmets? The first petrol-fueled motorcycle was built by Daimler Reitwagen in1885. Humans have always had an affinity for speed and competition; naturally, it was only a matter of time until we started riding our new invention a little too recklessly, right? I think that question goes without answering because in the following decade after the motorcycle’s inception we experienced an explosion in the popularity of us racing these machines. Motorcycle...

New ECE Helmet Standards to Include Helmet Accessories Testing

Will This Change the Helmet Accessories Market? I’ve heard before that the accessories you wear on your helmet can impact its safety. It makes sense. Helmet manufacturers spend a lot of time perfecting the shape of the shell only for many of us to toss on a Bluetooth comm unit and mess that up. The ECE must agree with this sentiment because it recently decided to add accessories testing to its list of tests, according to Motorbike Writer.  The new ECE 22.06 standards will take helmet accessorie...

Matrix Motorcycle Helmets Opens Pre-Orders on the Alpha Pro

Pre-Order the Ultra Modular I reported previously about the Matrix Alpha Pro ultra modular helmet. That helmet is a super-unique lid in that it can be reconfigured into a full-face, open face with a chin bar and with goggles, open face with a chin bar and no goggles, or an open face helmet. There are also adjustable elements, such as the rear spoiler and vents for airflow. The helmet is now available for pre-order. Open Face with a Large Face Shield Shark is a French helmet manufacturer that makes good lids. We have reviewed several of them, but recently the company has released a new Citycruiser helmet. It’s an open face, jet-style helmet with a large face shield that covers your whole face. The helmet is available in four solid colors and four dual-tone colorways. The helmet gets a thermoplastic shell (two shell sizes for the range), EPS liner, vents to either side of the face shield, an exhaust vent, d...

Klim Krios Pro Review: Koroyd Makes It Awesome

Redemption? Or More Pain? Last year I reviewed the Klim K1R Raw Karbon helmet and although I liked many things about it, the fatal flaw was how loud it was to wear on the highway. Brutally loud, in fact. After touring the Klim HQ in Rigby, Idaho last September while I was down there enjoying the Cow Tagz XL Rally, I had the chance to try on a few other helmets and learn more about the innovations being made to their line of head protection. Klim is all about pushing the envelope and taking chan...

Nexx Helmets Offers New X.G10 Saloon Jet Helmet

Retro Styled We’ve been pretty impressed with the last few Nexx helmets we’ve reviewed, so it’s cool to see the company come out with a new lid. This one is called the X.G10 Saloon Jet Helmet and it offers unique retro styling with some modern flair. Nexx previously sold the NEXX X.G10 helmet, but this new version offers some unique elements. All of the open-face helmets from the company basically offer the same thing. The shell and construction are the same the X.G10 Saloon just comes with som...

HJC F70 Full Face Helmet Review

Some First Impressions I have never worn an HJC helmet before or even tried on one while window shopping. So I was very interested in testing the new generation F70. Reading up on this new breed, I quickly discovered that it was a unique blend of helmet technology in a comms ready helmet. But the most significant factor was that HJC offered all of these benefits at an amazingly affordable price. When I open the box and pull out a new helmet, my first “test” is to check out the weight. I don’t...

The Martrix Alpha Pro Is an Interesting New Modular Helmet

One Helmet for Many Situations If you’re looking for one helmet you can use for street, motocross, adventure riding, track riding, then Matrix has an option for you. The company calls it the Matrix Alpha Pro, and the company claims it’s “the ultra modular” helmet. Seeing as how I haven’t seen one of these up close or worn one, I can’t confirm or deny their claims, but I do find the helmet interesting. It has a modular design, but it’s more than just a helmet with a flip-up chin bar. The helmet ...

A Good Group of Smart Helmets When the Web Bike World team went to AIMExpo in 2019, we had a chance to chat with Quin Design Helmets‘ CEO and check out a few of the helmets they had on display. The company’s claim to fame is the IntelliQuin Smart Technology System. It’s an integrated Crash Detection and SOS Beacon. ECE Will Update Its Standards to Improve Testing

More Extensive Testing Is a Good Thing The ECE 22-05 testing that is in place for helmets in European countries has been in place for two decades now. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has a new testing procedure that it will put out. It’s called ECE 22-06. This upgrade to the testing procedure should help ECE become a better standard for testing helmets.  The impact testing of helmets will now be done at a wider range of velocities and at more points on the helmet. Women of Legal Tech Find Strength in Numbers When Battling Imposter Syndrome

A special guest post by legal affairs writer and editor Molly McDonough, former editor and publisher of the ABA’s flagship magazine, the ABA Journal. The last thing I expected to hear at the 2020 Women of Legal Tech Summit was this: I don’t feel like I deserve to be here. A version of this self-deprecating sentence repeated a few times as speakers and honorees took the stage for the third-annual summit at Chicago-Kent College of Law to focus on ways to close the legal tech gender gap. It was ...

Klim HQ Tour & 2019 Cow Tagz XL Rally

Challis, Idaho…  Have you heard of it? Maybe it’s just me who hasn’t, I’m not sure.  What I know now is that I can’t wait to go back to visit in 2020 so I can enjoy virtually unlimited, prototypical adventure motorcycle riding trails in the area. At the same time, I’ll participate in another Cow Tagz XL Rally organized by Klim. “You’ve got a little something on your face, Jim.” Photo by Ian Clark Maybe I’ll be able to keep my big mouth shut next time and walk away with a brand new Hond...

DOT Helmet Failure Rate Is Now 43 Percent

In the Government’s Own Sanctioned Testing The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) employed Act Labs—an independent lab in California—to test DOT helmets for labeling and performance from 2014 to 2019. During that time, the lab tested 167 helmets. 62.8 percent of the helmets failed the labeling portion and a whopping 43.1 percent of the helmets failed the performance tests. This is an increase over last year’s numbers. This is especially concerning because DOT approval is a s...

A Look at Dangerous Counterfeit Motorcycle Helmets

Everything Is Not as it Seems Knock-off and counterfeit motorcycle gear is a real problem. Companies sell stuff that looks legit to most people but isn’t. In the case of regular clothing, this is far less problematic, but when it comes to motorcycle gear and especially motorcycle helmets, the difference could be fatal.  Motorcycle News recently did a pretty in-depth report on counterfeit motorcycle helmets. One thing stuck out to me. The publication put up a picture of a real helmet next to a f...
