Google Suspended Federated Chat App Element for Allegedly Hosting Abusive Content

Google temporarily yanked Element’s Android chat app from the Play Store this week for allegedly hosting abusive content. The decision’s particularly baffling given that Element is only a client for the federated chat protocol Matrix and not a service in and of itself. Meaning that Element can (and does) moderate its…Read more...

THE ROAD TO 300K - Off Grid in the Chattahoochee N.F.

As our 2004 Honda Element ticks ever closer to the 300,000 mile mark, we've started chronicling the trips, 1,000 miles at a time, with a series of T.F.M. posts.  You can circle back to the first post, though I ended up skipping 291-292,000 miles as the one remarkable thing we did was a weekend run up to Clemson for tailgating and the game.  Now we're jumping back into it with 292-293,000 miles with a weekend camping trip with our daughter and her youth leaders team from church.  This was a small...

Element wants to give identity to the whole world, raising $12M Series A

Who are you? That’s both an existential question, and also a very practical administrative concern. Today, identity is often exchanged through the use of government ID cards and official paperwork, but what happens when someone loses that paperwork or it is destroyed? Or, as is often the case in many countries around the world, a citizen never received the paperwork to begin with?
