‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ at 25: Tim Burton’s Hybrid-Holiday Musical Still Holds Charm

As a filmmaker, Burton’s strength has always been in his visual storytelling, the eccentric look and phantasmagorical feel of his characters and story settings. Since 1990, a parade of peculiar, pale protagonists, led by the grand marshal of Edward Scissorhands, has formed up in his long string of collaborations with Johnny Depp. His early collaborations with Michael Keaton also gave us the iconic Beetlejuice and two rich, operati...

It seems like the preparation for Halloween is starting earlier and earlier every year. By the end of August, stores were already displaying Halloween candy, costumes and decorations. Danny Elfman to Score ‘Justice League,’ Will Probably Charge More Than $1

Elfman returns…to superhero movies. Danny Elfman, the composer for classic superhero movies like Tim Burton’s Batman and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, has signed on to score Justice League. This may throw a wrench in Elfman’s recently announced plans to score smaller films for $1 — I’m pretty sure Warner Bros. will pay him a little bit more than that, at least. Elfman will be joining his previous collaborator Joss Whedon, who he worked with on Avengers: Age of Ultron, in the post-...
