Water catchment in Elko County or out in the sticks

For those of you living off the beaten path (not just in Elko) where water is a bit scarce and digging a well can be as expensive as the land is cheap...has anyone ever considered installing an in ground swimming pool with a liner? The pool would probably have to be put an extra 3' below ground to avoid freezing. It would require a cover of some sort to prevent evaporation, and some system for it to not become a swamp...but a 20,000 gallon whole pool set up is about $5K, not that you would nee...

9 bad habits I lost in Nevada

1. I stopped defining states by their biggest cities. Photo: Sydney Martinez/TravelNevada There’s more to Nevada than the seductive billboards and bright lights of Reno and Vegas (though they are pretty spectacular in their way). In small towns like Elko, I saw where thousands of fiery cowboy poets gather to celebrate lore of days gone by. Historic towns like Virginia City, and straight-up ghost towns like Rhyolite, made me feel like I was on the set of an old Western movie. In Great Basin Na...
