Even with some countries relaxing travel bans, passengers are facing obstacles like obtaining D Visas or si...

No-Bake Icebox Cake Recipe, For A Scorching Summer Day

This creamy, no-bake icebox cake (technically a carlota de limon), only requires five ingredients. It’s bright with fresh lime and as easy to make as it is to eat. A charlotte (or carlota) is the perfect kind of dessert for the summer. It’s close to a trifle in that it is composed of layers of luscious ingredients, and requires no baking. Emphasis on no baking. Cookies, breadcrumbs, and biscuits are the “cake” components that work between layers of custard, cream, or jam (or all of them). Becau...

Lakers try to connect with familes from the NBA bubble

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — The Lakers wear their loved ones draped around their necks. For LeBron James, it’s a gold chain that has links with his children’s names: Bronny, Bryce and Zhuri. For JaVale McGee, it’s a beaded necklace with a princess dangling from it, which jostles the other hardware McGee puts on after practice. “My daughter made this necklace for me,” he said. “So right now it’s my favorite one.” While players and coaches have access to golf, fishing, pool time and games in the NBA ...

As some players leave the NBA bubble, others consider what might pull them away

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. >> For the first time in months, Lou Williams had finished a competitive basketball game, and a 99-90 win no less. But his first thoughts weren’t with how long it had been, or how good it felt to get back on the court, but rather his teammates. “I want to send a shoutout to Trezz, and I want to send a shoutout to Pat (Beverley) who are dealing with issues at home with family,” Williams said. “Let them know we’re thinking about them.” The NBA bubble hadn’t been open for a w...

5 Ways Technology Helps Staying Home During Pandemic and Georgia Heat

With this Covid-19 pandemic and this heat in Georgia, there’s two important factors in staying in your home. The only times we’re leaving the house is to go grocery shopping and work. When home, I’m either reading a book, streaming shows or finding ways to make some money. With sports basically at a standstill, I’m no longer playing Draft Kings, but checking out Dunder casino in NZ. When the entire family is home, we have quite a few ways to keep ourselves entertained. I’ll be honest, technolo...

Sparks’ Alana Beard is retired but not forgotten

Alana Beard isn’t anywhere near the WNBA’s bubble in Bradenton, Florida, but on L.A. Sparks’ media day Friday, her name kept coming up. Beard made a most casual retirement announcement Jan. 22, during a radio interview on a sports talk station serving her native Shreveport, Louisiana: “I’m rolling out,” the defensive stalwart said that day. And with that, she moved on after 15 WNBA seasons, in which she was named Defensive Player of the Year twice, an All-Star four times and had a hand in the Sp...

'Antennagate' just turned 10. Here's how the iPhone 4's antenna issues became one of Apple's biggest scandals of all time. (AAPL)

This week marked the 10th anniversary of "Antennagate," one of the biggest scandals in Apple history.  The scandal began when Apple's iPhone 4 went on sale on June 24, 2010. Customers who bought the phone quickly realized its bars disappeared or calls were dropped altogether when held in the left hand.  Apple downplayed the problem as a miscalculation of signal strength, and then CEO Steve Jobs told customers they were simply holding the phone wrong.  Apple eventually admitted that the problem...

'The guy stinks and he’s a racist': Anthony Scaramucci on Donald Trump

Some improvement, but not much, on nursing home visitors

The good news in California nursing homes this summer is that some are allowing their residents to see visitors at long last, but almost exclusively outdoors and in very controlled circumstances where the guests have little chance to see what’s happening inside the homes. This small, far-from-universal change is largely the result of a slight improvement in a key state guideline governing nursing homes. The change: The state Department of Public Health (DPH) no longer merely recommends that nurs...

Away from the comforts of family, Lakers find new pursuits in NBA ‘Bubble’

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. >> On most mornings, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope awakens to find a missed call. It might be from his wife, or one of his sons. Whoever it is, he tries to call them back within a reasonable time frame — a little trickier to do these days three time zones apart. “Every day we try to talk on FaceTime, try to talk after practice and stuff like that throughout the day,” Caldwell-Pope said. “Try to stay in contact as much as possible.” Of the many things the NBA players and staff a...
