Jalen Ramsey has Rams teammates ‘excited,’ though status uncertain for Sunday

THOUSAND OAKS — As anticipation builds for Jalen Ramsey’s debut with the Rams, the drama has turned into a mystery. Rams coach Sean McVay said Friday the Pro Bowl cornerback’s arrival in a trade this week added energy to the team and “guys are excited about playing with him.” But it remained unclear if that will happen Sunday when the Rams face the Falcons in Atlanta. “We’re going to see, my man,” Ramsey said after his second practice with the Rams. He added with a smile: “That’s what I said yes...

Fantasy Football Start And Sits Week 7: Start Jared Goff Against Falcons?

(CBSLA/CBS Local) — The Los Angeles Rams have struggled of late, losing their last three games. Jared Goff, however, aside from a stinker against a strong San Francisco 49ers defense, has been mostly okay. In fact, he’s been better than okay, throwing for 395 yards and a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks and 517 yards and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He could put up similar — or better — numbers this week with his receiving core healthy. The Rams head to Atlanta to face ...

Falcons CB Trufant to miss 2nd straight game with toe injury

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant will miss his second straight game with a toe injury. The Falcons listed Trufant as out for Sunday’s contest against the Los Angeles Rams. Last week at Arizona, Kendall Sheffield made his first career start in place of Trufant. The rookie will likely get the […]

Rams vs. Atlanta Falcons: Who has the edge?

RAMS (3-3) at FALCONS (1-5) When: 10 a.m. Sunday Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Line: Rams by 3 TV/radio: Channel 11; 710-AM, 1330-AM (Spanish) RAMS OFFENSE vs. FALCONS DEFENSE The picture is clouded by injury questions about running backs Todd Gurley (out last week with a thigh bruise) and Malcolm Brown (who sprained an ankle), and another new starter in the offensive line in rookie David Edwards. Theoretically, the Rams’ offense can right itself Sunday. After being embarrassed by a 49er...

Patriots Mailbag: Could Patriots pry Austin Hooper from Falcons via trade?

If the Patriots like Hooper enough that they'd be willing to ink him to a long-term deal after trading for him, I'd say they should be willing to part with a first- or second-round pick for him. That's not typically the way they do business. Hooper and his reps would have all kinds of leverage in contract negotiations if the Patriots sent a high pick to Atlanta for someone who might only be a rental.

For Rams’ offensive line, changes keep coming in a rush

THOUSAND OAKS — The Rams have crossed their fingers, sometimes behind their backs, when they’ve talked about their offensive line this season, saying the unit would improve as two newcomers gained experience. It hasn’t happened as quickly as needed, as the Rams’ 20-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday made clear. And the chances it will happen soon faded when young guard Joe Noteboom went down with a knee injury early in that game. With Noteboom out for the year, coach Sean McVay said r...

High hopes for Falcons defense have been thoroughly dashed

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons had high hopes for their defense, with several key players were coming back from injuries and head coach Dan Quinn taking over as coordinator. Those hopes were quickly dashed. Six games into what is turning into a dismal season, the Falcons (1-5) have one of the NFL’s […]

Whicker: Rams consider Jalen Ramsey to be heaven-sent

THOUSAND OAKS — Les Snead, the Rams’ general manager, has put his faith and his franchise into the hands of a unique trinity. When he speaks of Jalen Ramsey, his new cornerback, he keeps talking about Mom, Dad and God. “He has a skill set,” Snead said Wednesday. “Mom, Dad and God gave him length. You can get your hands on people at the line of scrimmage that other players can’t because Mom, Dad and God didn’t give them that length. “They also gifted him with the agility that others don’t have, a...

Whicker: Sean Walker, Kings trying to measure progress away from scoreboard

LOS ANGELES — There’s nothing wrong with dreaming the NHL dream, as long as your eyes are open. Sean Walker, a right-hand defenseman from Keswick, Ontario, went to Bowling Green. He bet on himself, and a hockey scholarship that might lead to a profession. He also gave himself a hedge: A business degree, earned in four years. “With a specialization in supply-chain management,” Walker said. Now the backup plan is buried deep in an NHL locker. Walker, nearly 25, is playing regularly as a second-pai...

Week 7 fantasy football QB rankings: Will Jared Goff bounce back vs. Falcons?

Jared Goff's home/road splits are no surprise, but his outing at the Los Angeles Coliseum last week has many people hitting the panic button. Goff could pretty much do nothing against the San Francisco 49ers, and many are taking it as a microcosm of the Rams' up-and-down offense this season. Week 7 Fantasy Rankings: QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | FLEX | DST | Kickers] But a respite could be waiting in the wings in the form of the Atlanta Falcons defense.

Rams put Aqib Talib on injured reserve, guard Joe Noteboom out for season

THOUSAND OAKS — The Rams announced Monday that Aqib Talib is going on the injured reserve list with a rib injury, meaning they’ve lost the veteran cornerback for at least eight weeks. Talib, 33, a 2016 first-team All-Pro, missed the Rams’ 20-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Coach Sean McVay had said earlier in the week that Talib and running back Todd Gurley (bruised thigh) both were day to day. Gurley didn’t play either. McVay said Monday that right guard Joe Noteboom will be out fo...

Falcons keep taking steps back, and the defense is to blame

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are riding a four-game losing streak and have dropped 10 of 14 going back to Week 10 last season. Can it get any worse? Most signs point to yes. With each passing week, the Falcons are proving they lack the personnel to fix what’s wrong on defense. Arizona rookie […]

Missed PAT sends Falcons home empty from long trip

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons mounted a massive second-half comeback, rallying from 17 down to pull within a point of tying Arizona. All they needed was an extra point to tie the game and hopefully send it to overtime, possibly pull out a much-needed win. When Matt Bryant’s try sailed wide left with […]

Matt Bryant misses extra point to doom Falcons in 1-point loss

For a couple seconds, it looked as though the Atlanta Falcons were going to overtime. After battling their way back against the Arizona Cardinals, the Falcons scored a clutch touchdown with just 1:53 remaining. An extra point would tie things up, potentially sending the game into overtime.

Cardinals beat Falcons 34-33 after Bryant’s extra point miss

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Kyler Murray threw for 340 yards and three touchdowns and the Arizona Cardinals built a big lead, lost it, and then rallied again for a 34-33 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Week 6 Start 'Em or Sit 'Em

Start 'Em or Sit 'Em is geared toward season-long leagues but can also be used for daily fantasy purposes. Start of the Week: Kyler Murray vs. Falcons: Even as a relative disappointment in terms of passing touchdowns (4, 27th), Murray is still the overall QB7 through five weeks on the back of the fourth-most attempts and 11th-most yards while playing in the league's second fastest-paced offense and showing off his dual-threat ability with 206 rushing yards and two scores as a runn...

Falcons face tough task in corralling Arizona’s Murray

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons are looking for any way to get one of the NFL’s worst pass rushes going, whether it’s with a four-man rush, stunting or sending blitzes. Their task gets a little more complicated this weekend. In facing the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, the Falcons not only need to find […]

Week 6 Rankings

The Falcons are getting blasted for the most quarterback fantasy points, and have coughed up two QB ground scores in five games. Like Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott has more interceptions than passing touchdowns over his past three starts (4:5). On paper, the Jets have been surprisingly stingy through the air, permitting the seventh fewest quarterback fantasy points.
