January 13, 2021 at 1:36 PM The third lumberjack is the last for now. I’ve got a lot of prep work on my desk right now- sewing, cutting, and even getting out the dyes. I’m revving up for a new year that seems so very uncertain. But I will continue to make because that’s what keeps me sane!

December 1, 2020 at 9:23 PM There is going to be 3 blue ones in all, in case you were wondering. That was how many were in my already sewed up pile and need to be finished.
When I started working on this fellow, I was thinking he looked like a fancy Miami Beach Merman with his floral tail and coral-patterned ferns. I tried out some pinky-purple hair but it just wasn’t working for me. In the end, I choose some icy-green and it turned him into a much more serious fellow. He is is obviously from the warmer climes!

November 29, 2020 at 4:49 PM I have had a few requests for a red-haired merman so I hope whoever wanted one, see this! I’ve gone back through comments and messages but can not find what I am looking for.

November 28, 2020 at 1:40 PM I am planning to work on tattooed people for a while- probably up to the New Year. I have a lot already dyed and sewed up so now I get to focus on the fun part!
First up is some Mermen.
His very light hair didn’t show up very well in the photos. Here is a view from the other side.
Kelp on his chest and arms and a sea glass button. I picked a very dark variegated thread to embroider onto the rick rack- it plays on the dark red-purple and black of the fins..

She is very fancy with her silk bow and cashmere sweater.

November 22, 2020 at 3:04 PM This little cat was inspired by some Indian print fabric scraps that my neighbor gave me. They look like bits of clothing and bedspreads that everyone I knew was wearing and using for decor back in the late 60’s/70’s.
Of course no one I knew would have been wearing a cashmere sweater!
She has a purse/bag just like I used to use. I would have made a macrame fringe but it was just too tiny so I settled for knots. Also a cool bead necklace.

And a fancy black and white wool jacket; with pockets and of course things in the pockets. There is a linen hankie, a notebook, and some other little bits.

When the pandemic started and we were first staying home (not at all unusual for me), I ordered up a bunch of new Liberty fabric (from here) because why not. I am really having fun with these faux Fair Isle sweaters. Although, embroidering on cashmere is not easy.
In case you are wondering, he holds his basket with a hook and eye fastener. The hook is sewn into the cuff of his shirt. Here are all the things in his trug/garden basket-

I have a tiny forest of myrtle trees that I hope to attempt to train into topiary (eventually) and many many baby streptocarpus plants which will hopefully bloom one day. October 6, 2020 at 4:11 PM Wow, it’s been a while since I last posted. I hadn’t realized it was as long as it was! Other mostly inconsequential things going on to distract me- dentist appointments, cleaning up my studio… of course it is worse then ever now!…; my neighbor is clearing out her house and I’ve got bags and bags of vintage and antique textiles to clean, admire, sort; my fall garden and gorgeous dahlias. There is always something. Anyway, I am finally back with something to show. It is time for some doggies!
