2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro Review: When The Wild Calls

2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro In Our Editorial Opinion: The 4Runner TRD Pro is for a specific customer who wants a specific look and a specific set of capabilities (off-road in this case). This isn't a good or bad thing necessarily. Just something to be aware of when shopping the 4Runner lineup. For hitting the trails and serious off-roading, the TRD Pro is your ticket. Otherwise, we suggest either the Premium or Limited trim. They still have 4x4 capability, but are a bit more tame than t...

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ actor on bringing steamy gay romance to mainstream America

“It’s a special moment for television and for this couple to be portrayed and represented on network television because this is usually a couple that you would see on cable or streaming. At Sherman Oaks candidates forum: Councilman Ryu attacked for homeless record

Councilman David Ryu was back in his San Fernando Valley wheelhouse at a candidates debate Wednesday but faced the sort of enmity reserved only for incumbents as challengers sharply criticized his response to the district’s ballooning homeless population. Voters from the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association were said to have tipped the balance in a 2015 neck-and-neck 4th District City Council election between Ryu and former Tom LaBonge chief of staff Carolyn Ramsay. Five years ago, Ryu was a litt...

Trump Uses Pardons To Reward His Friends And Justify His Own Actions

The President’s latest wave of pardons on Tuesday — primarily benefiting, as usual, his political allies — was a little more on the nose than normal. Why? Because of Paul Pogue. The construction company owner served three years of probation for tax fraud, having underpaid the government $473,000. Just months ago, Pogue’s family did something they’d never done before: Donate huge sums to the President’s reelection effort. Pogue’s son and daughter-in-law donated more than $200,000 to the Trump ...

The New ‘Planet of the Apes’ Movie Won’t Be a Reboot, So Please Don’t Go Bananas

There’s a new Planet of the Apes movie in the works, but if you’ve read reports stating it’s another remake/reboot, you’ve been misinformed. Maze Runner director Wes Ball has been tasked with tackling the franchise next, and he was also nice enough to jump on Twitter and confirm that whatever he’s making, it’s not a reboot. Ball was tight-lipped as to what the movie might be about, but he swears that the legacy of the previous trilogy will remain intact. Late last year, word broke that a new...

How Martin Luther King Jr. and Motown Saved the Sound of the Civil Rights Movement

You know Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Or at least you think you know it—you’ve read about it in textbooks, or heard politicians quote from it, or seen clips in classrooms or museums. But chances are, you haven’t heard the full 17-minute address from the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and what you have heard failed to capture what made it the one of the most famous speeches in history. Even if you wanted to, despite its renown, it’s surprisingly hard to find...

Boom! Skilled at Creating New Tie-Ins for Giant Days and Lumberjanes

Gotta admire Boom! for not being afraid to create tie-ins and spin-offs for some of their most beloved comic titles. Their most popular series is probably Lumberjanes; even though the planned live-action movie has been canceled (a casualty of Disney’s acquisition of Fox), there are still series of young adult prose stories and original graphic novels telling more stories of the group of campers who bond together against mystical and supernatural threats. Coming this fall will be The Encyclopedia...

Radio: How this one station made the move to No. 1

KFMB-FM (100.7) has been on the air in San Diego since 1950, though it didn’t get its official license and call letters until September of 1959. At that time and until 1975, like so many FM stations of the era, it played what is called Beautiful Music, a format consisting primarily of long sweeps of instrumental music with few announcements or DJ chatter. Beautiful Music was designed to appeal to the early listeners of FM radio who tended to be older, more affluent, and less interested in the te...
