The Internal Revenue Service said it would give U.S. taxpayers an extra day to file their returns electronically after a computer malfunction disrupted the agency’s website. Every year the IRS processes more than 120 million tax returns that arrive by mid-April and spits back some $300 billion in refunds. Last year, about 90 percent of returns submitted by April 2...

In addition to finding subjects in the area where he lives, Friedland has traveled and painted across the U.S. as well as in Europe and China. Modern Brands Cannot Compromise Their Meaning

Transaction brands sprang from industrialism and its commercial consumer culture. The focus was on the material benefits for consumers and users. Industry produced new products using economies of scale. Mass marketing these products was part of the whole and advertising became a way of creating the model for the new consumers. The message was either highly product orientated, pragmatic about the features of the product or service, or a combination of material and social satisfaction, in term...

These guys created an app that stops college students from using their phones — and it's so successful they dropped out of college

In 2014, Mitch Gardner and Rob Richardson, two students and fraternity brothers at Chico University in Northern California, were hanging out. Richardson, a computer science major, noticed something that was bugging him. While in class, everyone was looking at their phones, texting, and doing whatever, with "no one paying attention to the teachers" as Gardner recalls. The more they talked about it, the more annoyed they were. If technology could cause that kind a phone addiction, then it could al...

The hot new coders in Israel are Ultra-Orthodox Jews

Itzik Friedland, an ultra-Orthodox father of three from Tel Aviv, had an audacious request for the rabbis he respected. Would it be OK if he learned computer coding and started work as a software developer? It was an unusual ask because devout Israeli Jews like Friedland are expected to eschew the modern, secular world for the study of ancient Talmudic texts.
