With a new month comes fresh opportunity to experience the full moon you may have been too nonchalant to witness four weeks ago. This month, the forthcoming celestial wonder will brighten skies and presumably streak across Instagram feeds, as the pink Super Moon emerges again on April 26, about a year and six weeks…Read more...

This and That

Another mix of photos in Paris. The full moon came up orange the other day probably due to polution but still beautiful. Here it is right over Montparnasse Tower. Meat delivery. Well, this is unusal. The Dior Shop I think. Seen in a children’s playground by les Halles. Flowers for my birthday. I am old enough to have gotten my second vaccination against Covid on my birthday. I have the antibodies for it too so surely I am covered. I just want to travel aga...

Libra Full Moon: Passion and Prudence

E ach year at the Aries Equinox, I imagine the great mass of humanity bursting out of the starting gate like the bulls running in Pamplona – highly charged with vim and vitality, impatient to get on with the business of … what, exactly? As the Sun enters Aries and the energetic New Year begins, we’re never exactly sure. We’re long on energy, but short on perspective. At the Libra Full Moon (March 28, 2021, 11:48 am PDT, at 8°18′ Libra), our task is to cast the cool eye of appraisal over the id...

Highlights for March 22-28, 2021: Telepathy

Telepathy Dates and times are given for U.S. Pacific Time zone. Assertiveness T here are times to be humble, and times to boldly assert ourselves. As Mercury squares Mars (March 23, 2021, 8:26 pm PDT), we face a situation that requires that we stand up for ourselves – as we may or may not have done during the most recent Mercury/Mars squares on Jan. 8 and Feb. 10. This time around, Mercury is in gentle Pisces instead of self-assured Aquarius, as it was then; but Pisces is not always a p...

When to See February's 'Snow Moon'

Winter in the U.S. has been brutal in 2021, as snow blanketed the entire eastern seaboard and icy conditions spread as far south as Texas, causing the electrical grid to go offline. A reprieve from the frigid hell should be welcome, and it’s coming in the form of a very large full moon on the evenings of February 26…Read more...

Virgo Full Moon: Meaningful Habits

T he February 27, 2021 Full Moon is in Virgo, the sign associated with those routines that comprise most of our days— working, running errands, preparing meals—as well as the habits we form through repetition of those routines. For the most part, we regard these habits and routines as entirely separate from our spiritual lives; this perspective that extends to our astrological lore, which relegates poor Virgo to the role of hapless drone while conferring spiritual honors upon its opposite sign...

How to View Tonight's Wolf Moon

Tonight we’ll see the rise of the wolf moon, the first full moon of 2021. Oddly enough, peak illumination begins at 2:16 p.m., when the moon is not generally visible. But don’t let the sun ruin the moon’s first big day this year; you can get a good glimpse right around sunset.Read more...

Leo Full Moon: Follow the Sun

T he Full Moon in warm, open-hearted, playful Leo (Jan. 28, 2021, 11:16 am PST) stands in kittenish contrast to the Sun in Aquarius’ cooler, Saturn-ruled style. Ruled by the Sun, Leo seems custom-made to shine brightly and joyfully. But while I was born with the Sun in this extravagant sign, I’m something of a failed Leo. My mother used to tell me that I started out as the sunniest, happiest child she’d ever seen. Perhaps it’s true. Certainly I’ve seen pictures of myself as a little girl, look...

Love Horoscope for the Week of January 25

“Have you thought about having a nice shag in your living room?” – pickup line at a 1970s carpet store Congratulations everyone on surviving the potential mayhem that came with Mars conjunct Uranus, square Saturn and Jupiter! Nice work. I was worried about things there for a while. Now, can we get back to the love and romance? Mars conjunct Uranus may be past the exact degree, but it is still in full effect this week without the discomfort that Saturn was causing to that combination. One of the ...

Cancer Full Moon: Mother Christmas

G rowing up, I enjoyed Christmas as much as the next kid. I became ambivalent toward the holidays some time in my mid-20s, but it wasn’t until I got married that my indifference toward Christmas flared into genuine dislike. I found the unbridled materialism unpalatable (now that I was at an age when it no longer benefited me personally), the music irritating, and the moralistic undertones cloying. Craving an observance more peaceful, that felt more meaningful, I renounced the Christmas of my y...

Gemini Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse: Beyond Words

The Gemini Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse at 8°38′ Gemini is on Nov. 30, 2020, 1:30 am Pacific Time. I n Gemini, the Moon finds comfort in language – in the reassuring hum of parents’ voices down the hall as their children fall asleep; in the soothing mantra, the dog’s welcoming bark, delighted laughter, a favorite poem. Even, when the time comes, in the sensitive eulogy for a loved one, delivered by someone with keen powers of observation and a lyrical tongue. Eclipses of the Moon reveal uncon...

Earth will partially eclipse the Beaver Moon this weekend. Here's what that means.

A total lunar eclipse as seen from Santa Monica, California, October 8, 2014. A Beaver Moon eclipse will be visible across North America overnight Sunday. Earth will move between the full moon and the sun, partially eclipsing the moon in darkness, for four-and-a-half hours early Monday. Taurus Full Moon: The Center of You

E ach time we visit my husband’s native New Zealand, I spend the first five days or so completely gobsmacked by the physical beauty of the place, feeling emotionally massaged by the gentle and courteous manner of its people. And the cows! New Zealand’s sheep get all the press, but I’ve never seen so many cows in my life, and I come from a farm community. Everywhere—alongside the motorway, next to roadside cafés—cows roam verdant hills, chewing contentedly, sometimes just standing completely st...

A Few

I have a few photos to post. It’s been raining a lot here so I haven’t been out much. This photo is obviously not taken in France. They do have pumpkins here but not in piles like you see in the States. I love Autumn. A full moon rising on the night I went to see the Eiffel Tower lit up in pink. A rainbow sort of piercing a cloud after a rain storm and as the sun set.

Aries Full Moon: Gallant Knight

O ne recent morning, when I was on deadline and stressed out, an email landed in my inbox that made me angry. Angry, in fact, to a degree far out of proportion to the offense. Mars, the warrior planet, is strong in my birth chart, and I’ve always had a temper. But as a woman in her sixth decade of life, a professional, a mentor, and a counselor, I was unnerved that such a small thing could still get my goat. It’s times like this that remind me how we came to use expressions like, “That made me...

Pisces Full Moon: Faith, Reason, and the Truth

E ach Full Moon presents us with an apparent dichotomy between the sign occupied by the Sun, and the opposite sign, occupied by the Moon. When we take a closer look, we realize that while these two archetypes may approach a situation from opposite directions, they’re at least moving toward a common center. The dichotomy at the heart of this Full Moon pits faith (Moon/Neptune in Pisces) against reason (Sun in Virgo). Is “I don’t know—I just like him/her” a valid reason to support for someone wh...

Aquarius Full Moon: Alone, Together

G rowing up as part of a big, loud, extended family, I spent a lot of time alone in my bedroom, reading, writing, or playing my guitar. I savored my privacy and the relative quiet of my little sanctuary. But what made it possible for me to enjoy my time alone was knowing that just outside my bedroom door, there were laughing, loving people. It was comforting to know that whenever I wanted to, I could join the party. As an adult, this is what I still love about my family – and about my friends,...

Capricorn Lunar Eclipse: Nobody’s Child

I ’m well into my fifties now, and it’s been more than 20 years since I had a living parent. And I’ll admit, there are still days that I miss being someone’s child. However much one is loved by a spouse, friends, or children, there’s something about having a loving parent that makes you feel you’ve always got a soft place to fall. Sagittarius Lunar Eclipse: The Shallow End of the Pool

B ecause genetics and fate seem to share a wry sense of humor, a great many of us find ourselves born into families with people whose views diverge sharply from our own. If you’re like me, you find this particularly difficult because while you have strong convictions, you were also raised to be polite and to avoid confrontation. My family and I love each other; we want to enjoy the little time we get to spend together. After so many years, we all know the rules—what we can talk about and what ...

Full Moon in Scorpio: The Great Mystery

W hen Qin Shi Huang, first emperor of China, ascended the throne in 246 BC at the age of 13, work began on a mausoleum that would eventually protect him in the afterlife. In 1974, workers excavating a well just outside the city of Xi’an discovered the site; archeologists eventually uncovered thousands of life-sized terracotta statues, mostly depictions of soldiers lined up in formation to escort the emperor into the valley of death. A Scorpio friend who visited China more than a year ago longe...

Scorpio Full Moon: Life Lessons on Letting Go

I’m delighted to share this Full Moon offering from my dear friend and podcasting partner, Jen Braun! ~ April by Jen Braun I never saw it coming: The moment that changed everything. When I woke up on that crisp Minnesota morning in the fall of 2014, it was a day like any other: ordinary, unremarkable. I grabbed my coffee, took a shower, brushed my teeth. I barely noticed my feet beneath me – or the vibrant leaves from our ancient maple tree in a continual free fall, offering an unspoke...
