Dieter Rams Lists the 10 Timeless Principles of Good Design–Backed by Music by Brian EnoFebruary 11, 2019 at 7:00 AM Nearly all of us have heard the dictum "Less, but better," and nearly all of us have used Braun products. But how many of us know that both of those owe their considerable popularity to the same man? After studying architecture, interior decoration, and carpentry, the German industrial designer Dieter Rams spent 40 years at Braun, most of them as the company's chief design officer. There he created such hits as the 606 universal shelving system, the SK61 record player, and the ET66 calculat...Tags: Apple, Google, Design, College, Netflix, Brian Eno, Seoul, Saul Bass, Braun, Dieter Rams, Facebook Twitter, Rams, Paola Antonelli, Colin Marshall, Gary Hustwit, 21st Century Los Angeles 46 people like this. The “Helvetica” director applies a “do it yourself” model to the release of his movies. “Rams,” his recent documentary about German industrial designer Dieter Rams, is Hustwit’s latest venture into self-distribution. “I don’t want to be paying someone else’s overhead,” said Hustwit. Like 2018 International Design Conference RecapOctober 3, 2018 at 2:45 PM The IDSA conference is an annual affair bringing together a community of designers, educators, students and experts all connected by their commitment to the field of industrial design. Like Simple Dieter Rams printsMay 31, 2018 at 8:10 PM I really like these prints for Rams, Gary Hustwit’s upcoming documentary about the legendary Dieter Rams. Each print features an object designed by Rams or his design team: the T41 radio, the ET66 calculator, the 620 chair, and the 606 shelving system.
PS. You can still buy the calculator from Braun. Ok, it’s a reissue, but that means it won’t cost you 100s of dollars on eBay.
