Exquisite Embroidery and Sunray Pleats

A new outfit from Georgette of Grown and Curvy Woman, whom we introduced to YLF in April 2020. The delightful melon-coloured skirt and unique botanical embroidery make for a gorgeous Summery combo. Georgette is sporting a dressy sunray pleated midi skirt with a slightly wider than usual waistband which tempers the volume of the pleats. She’s paired it with a voluminous blouse with eye-catching multi-coloured embroidery. Tucking the blouse creates structure. As do the deep V-neck and three-quarte...

Les Georgettes / Altesse: And You, Are You a Georgette?

Les Georgettes, a brand that’s part of the Altesse group, has been very successful since its creation in 2015. This success is due to an original concept: colourful and customizable cuffs. Each woman creates her own piece of jewellery which she can personalize with reversible leather bands. Many French women, including First Lady Brigitte Macron, fell in love with this Made In France brand (500K followers). Those most attached to the brand have even created their own very acti...

Apple Attempts to Block 'Nearly Identical' Logo From Trademarking

Apple is opposing the trademarking of a bottled water business's logo since it argues that it can be easily mistaken for its own (via Law Street). Apple filed a notice of opposition with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board against Georgette LLC's logo, asserting that its brand will be damaged if the applicant's logo is registered because of dilution and the likelihood of consumer confusion, mistake, or deception. Georgette's logo depicts a whole apple with the words "I am Arcus" over it, an...

After the Snow

It made me so happy to see this little guy sitting on a bench in downtown Marshall and it made me think of the haiku about a one foot waterfall also being refreshing. That's a child's sock on his head. I need to do this with Josie. I went in yesterday to sign more books at Penland's, including one for a granddaughter of "Rock' Shelton, one of the men mentioned in Crows who helped bury the victims of the Shelton Laurel Massacre. She lives elsewhere (Omaha, I think) and Georgette had ...

Georgette Mulheir Reveals the Reason Orphan Children are Being Left Behind

Data collection is significant for gathering statistics used by world governments to improve health and education for families and children. National statistics often exclude particular sectors of the general population in some countries, resulting in children living in orphanages left behind. Global Strategic Advisor of Lumos, Georgette Mulheir began bringing awareness to the nonrepresentation of these children in Europe and Romania. Her mission is to stop institutionalizing orphans and reduce ...

This has to be one of your best blogposts that captures to a t the way us home cooks get an urge and then plunge ahead making one mistake after another. Café Grand'mère: Best Grandma Forever

Konbini and Café Grand'Mère found themselves a common objective: reconnect the youth to their grand-parents. How? By interviewing France’s most popular performer and artist Mister V, along with his grandma, Georgette, in her living room. Their love and complicity can be seen in this interview whose format derived from Konbini’s iconic « BFF interview », traditionally reserved to long standing musical or acting duos. On that very special and wholesome occasion, they renamed it ...

Comment on perfect blueberry muffins by Georgette

Hi Deb, I have made this recipe many times and loved them. I’m now making them with chopped strawberries. OMG! Absolutely delicious. The sugar topping is essential and gives a nice crunch to a muffin that is not overly sweet. Thank you for producing such amazing recipes.

Joie de Vivre in Philadelphia

Philadelphia-based social worker Georgette (48) breathes enjoyment of life, or “joie de vivre”, and I can’t help but smile when browsing her blog Grown and Curvy Woman. Smoke from Australia's bushfires reach New Zealand turning their once clear skies orange

Australians aren't the only ones dealing with the effects from the ferocious bushfires -- parts of New Zealand were blanketed with thick smoke which turned the sky a gloomy-looking orange.Local Auckland resident Gala Georgette told AccuWeather during an interview that she has never seen anything like this before in her life."The mood in the city was eerie - it felt almost apocalyptic. It was very sobering. We have known about the Australian fires for months, but this made the reality and the...

The lesson of Mary Tyler Moore's 'Georgette'

As Georgette Franklin Baxter in "The Mary Tyler Moore show," the actress Georgia Engel, who died Friday, was pretty and people-pleasing — a pioneer of the modern-day, nonthreatening female sidekick archetype, the sort of character everyone loved to love. But viewers would soon learn to take her seriously.

What I’m Doing This Year to Learn About Wine

I only recently started drinking wine. Until age 40 I actually didn’t drink at all, so I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Far from becoming a lush, what I really want to do is learn about wine in all its fascinating variations (or varietals!) and hone my palate into a greater ability to recognize the finest of flavours. This year my main resolution is to be more dedicated to learning about wine in various, more structured ways than I’ve used so far. Talking about this goal with friends, I find...

Living in Italy: How I Stay Healthy

The first wintery days are upon us and with them, the first sniffles. Inevitably, my interns are all sick and children in schools are sneezing all over the place. We are into the joys of the winter season, which includes battling bugs in our bodies, even when the mosquitoes outside haven’t died off yet (they seem to never fully go away, ugh!). For me, this is the time to make sure I stick to my healthy regimen at all costs, and luckily, living in Italy makes it pretty easy for me to do this. Rec...

MTS allowing empty lots to turn into housing

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Metropolitan Transit System voted Thursday to allow their empty and underused parking lots to be developed into affordable housing. The MTS Board voted unanimously in favor of the recommendations from advocacy group Circulate San Diego. Earlier this year, the organization released a report that estimated the MTS had nearly 60 acres of property that can be converted into more than 8,000 apartment or condo units near trolley and bus stops. The nonprofit, which advocates for ...

Florence in the Summer: How to Visit in the Hottest Months

There are plenty of times I believe I’m living in paradise. I love Florence and I love being able to travel so easily in Tuscany and around Europe. But Florence in the Summer is basically Hell. While I live like a hermit in the dark, like a mole in search of air conditioning, strategically positioned in front of fans, outside, pavements reflect the unrelenting sun, new asphalt preserves the imprints of passersby and old cobblestones recall the last century in which every 11-12 months or so, the ...

We Think Every Stylish Girl Needs a "White Statement Blouse"

When it comes to classic wardrobe staples, the white blouse is up there with skinny jeans, camel coats and smart blazers. It's easy to dress up or down, and thankfully for all of us who experience that "nothing-to-wear" panic on a weekly basis, it's an incredibly versatile piece too; You can pair it with anything. Which is why the street style set has reignited their love affair with the (admittedly not-so) humble white blouse. From New York Fashion Week through to London, Milan and Paris and bey...

A Bible and a gun? How churches, temples, mosques are rethinking security

Pastor Mark Whitlock heard the news when he was in his office, surrounded by a security team, as he prepared to deliver his Sunday service. There was another mass shooting, he heard. And it happened at a church — again. “We began to weep,” said Whitlock, pastor of Christ Our Redeemer African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Irvine. “It shook us to our very core.” The shooting Whitlock referenced was at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. On Nov. 5, a man with a gun walked into ...

To Price a Quilt

What are these old beauties worth? Georgette at Penland's in Marshall, NC wants to know. A local man brought them in to sell. Thank heavens! Lots of folks who don't know how much work goes into a quilt will take old ones to the dump. It's been so long since I looked at antique quilts that I haven't a good idea of what would be fair and reasonable prices for them but I'm hoping some of my  quilting friends (Pepper Cory especially) might have an idea. I see these quilts as charmi...

My Top Cinque Terre Travel Hacks

I’m not a big fan of using the word “hack” to indicate anything not involving screwdrivers and saws, however in the travel world, if a destination ever needed hacking, the Cinque Terre would be it. Recently more famed for its dense crowds than for its beautiful scenery, the management of the Cinque Terre National Park declared last year they’d be limiting the number of people who could access it. Perhaps a good idea, but I interviewed the director of the park soon after for Travel+Leisure and he...
