Buick Crowns Tweener CUV Its Sales Stud

The Buick Encore GX, a larger, unrelated Encore with fewer cylinders than you’re used to, quietly appeared in the brand’s stable just as “pandemic” became every newscast’s favorite word. 2023 Cadillac Lyriq: Will This New EV Crossover Be Worth The Wait?

Don’t get me wrong, I particularly like the Cadillac Lyriq, and it boils down mainly to how it looks. My gosh, did Cadillac get it right this time around, huh!? But from how I see it, there are two problems. First, the Lyric you see here is not due for production until 2022, and that’s an issue considering the EV market is moving at a rapid pace already. And next, the Lyriq is a show car – or a concept, if you will – and Cadillac makes this clear in its press release. So yeah, you better hold...

With a renewed focus on creative skills, online learning company Skillshare raises $66M

CEO Matt Cooper said 2020 has been a year of rapid growth — even before the pandemic forced large swaths of the population to stay home and turn to online learning for entertainment and enrichment. Cooper (who became CEO in 2017) told me that the company decided last year to “focus on our strength,” leading to a “brand relaunch” in January 2020 to emphasize the richness of its creativity-themed content. At the same time, Cooper said the company defines creativity very broadly, with classes div...

Winning the electric car race is just the beginning of Elon Musk's plan for Tesla (TSLA)

The electric car race has been on since 2010, but it's now essentially over, and Tesla has won: CEO Elon Musk's automaker dominates the EV market But that market remains tiny, at just about 2% of global sales. Musk knows that for Tesla's grand vision to succeed, that share has to grow exponentially. Winning the EV race means that for Tesla, the real work of eliminating the internal-combustion engine has just begun. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. The idea that automakers a...

GM Muses Spinning Off EV Operations to Better Court Investors

One of the strangest anomalies in the automotive industry is the way electric vehicle startups (like technology companies in general) seem to draw limitless support from investors while established automakers don’t receive nearly the same kind of love — even when transitioning toward EVs. There’s a logic behind this, however. Green tech is overwhelmingly trendy at […] The post GM Muses Spinning Off EV Operations to Better Court Investors appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

The $56,000 Cadillac CT5-V can't replace the epic CTS-V — but it could give some BMW sport sedans a run for their money (GM)

I drove a $56,305 Cadillac CT5-V from the 2020 model year, a revved-up version of CT5 sedan. The CT5-V has a 360-horsepower V6 engine — that may not sound like a ton on paper, but it's punchy. The CT5-V is adequately sporty and at times comes off as downright German in its driving dynamics. But what really sets it apart is the overall package, from design to technology. GM unveiled Thursday the Cadillac Lyriq, an all-electric crossover dripping in luxury, tech-forward touches and promising more than 300 miles of range that aims to propel the brand into a new electrified era. Cadillac says new electric SUV has features to take on Tesla

We’ve seen this movie before, an electric vehicle from a mainstream automaker that will take away sales from market leader Tesla. The Cadillac Lyriq, a midsize SUV that comes out first in China and reaches U.S. showrooms late in 2022, will be able to go more than 300 miles on a single charge. “Prior product offerings, at least on some of those measures, they fell a bit short,” said Steve Carlisle, GM’s North American president who used to run the Cadillac brand.

Predators Bitten By Lack of Second Line Production, Again

The Nashville Predators find themselves down 2-1 in their best-of-five Qualifying Round series against the Arizona Coyotes after dropping Game 3 by a final score of 4-1. Ford's outgoing CEO couldn't match the stock value of Tesla or Nikola, but experts say his biggest moves prepared the old automaker for the future (F)

Though Ford's stock price declined during his tenure as CEO, Jim Hackett has made smart moves to prepare Ford for the future, two auto-industry experts told Business Insider. Hackett, who'll retire in October and be replaced by COO Jim Farley, strengthened Ford's investment in the autonomous-vehicle startup Argo AI through a deal with Volkswagen. And he set a plan to install tech in Ford cars that will allow them to communicate with stop signs, traffic lights, and other vehicles. Visit Busines...

Senators Could Use Eichel, But Is the Price Worth It?

The Ottawa Senators have a large collection of talented prospects, and if they reach their advertised potential, the team could become a perennial contender for years to come. The problem with putting the hope of a franchise in a group of prospects is that mathematically, not all of them will translate to the NHL. No matter how heralded a prospect is, nobody is guaranteed to become a consistent figure in a team’s lineup. When you have a chance to deal future assets for a superstar, you must do y...
