2020 GMC Sierra 1500: More Diesel, More Speeds

GMC’s new-for-2019 Sierra 1500 took a less controversial styling route than its Chevy Silverado sibling while retaining the numerous upgrades foisted upon the next-generation pickup twins. For 2020, GMC tweaked the light-duty Sierra’s offerings just a bit, hoping to lure more finicky buyers into the model. For starters, GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission has a new […] The post 2020 GMC Sierra 1500: More Diesel, More Speeds appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

I drove the Ford Ranger and the Chevy Colorado to see which midsize pickup truck was better — and the winner was clear (F, GM)

The Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado are the two biggest competitors from the major pickup-truck makers in the US. I've tested three Colorado trucks in different trims and one all-new Ford Ranger. The Colorado truck eked out a win this time over the Ranger, but the truth is that both pickups are outstanding. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. The Ford versus Chevy rivalry is a familiar one to pickup-truck customers. In the full-size segment, the mighty F-150 has been the bestse...

How GMC built a carbon-fiber truck bed that laughs at cinder blocks

GMC is offering a new pickup bed made of carbon fiber in the 2019 Sierra. The new bed is 62 pounds lighter than the steel version, and GMC says it’s six times tougher. We went behind the scenes in the factory where the CarbonPro bed is made. The post How GMC built a carbon-fiber truck bed that laughs at cinder blocks appeared first on Digital Trends.

Pontiac (OT)

Curious historical fact: Yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the death of the American car brand Pontiac, named for the city in Michigan where they were first built, which was named for an Odawa (Ottowa) chieftain who was assassinated in 1769. The last of the final 100 G6 sedans rolled off the assembly line on April 27th, 2009. None other than Bob Lutz placed the blame on the Feds, who were urging GM to cut brands during the post-crash bankruptcy and bailout. Olds was already gone by that time...

GMC Sierra CarbonPro Edition Vs. Bricks, Water Drums & Snowmobiles

The CarbonPro – or carbon fiber bed – is the first of its kind in the automotive industry.  Engineers subjected the bed’s surface to intense “drop testing” during development.  The GMC Sierra CarbonPro Edition trucks will enter production the first of June.  Trucks will always see their share of dents, dings, and scratches. Pulling equipment to and from the job site, or hauling hay around the farm, it’s inevitable. To counteract that, GMC is rolling out the Sierra CarbonPro Editions this summe...

Remember CarbonPro? GMC Hopes You Do – and Still Want to Pay Extra for It

In launching its next-generation Sierra half-ton last summer, GMC focused a lot of its attention on the brand-exclusive MultiPro tailgate, a bit of door-within-door wizardry that makes bed access a breeze. It also provides the necessary hookups for tailgate party tunes. In short, to butcher a quote from Toronto mayor John Tory, the MultiPro has […] The post Remember CarbonPro? Power Specs Leaked for GM’s New Inline-Six Diesel

While diesel may be deader than disco in the passenger car segment, it is rolling plenty of coal in the half-ton pickup truck class. Once the domain of heavy duty rigs, oil burners are now snaking their way under the hoods of consumer-grade trucks. We’ve known for a spell the output of Ford’s half-ton PowerStroke, […] The post Power Specs Leaked for GM’s New Inline-Six Diesel appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

2020 GMC Acadia: New Nips & Tucks For This SUV

The 2020 GMC Acadia receives new styling and propulsion updates.  A nine-speed transmission replaces the Acadia’s older six speed automatic. GMC says the connectivity and infotainment systems are more user-friendly. GMC just rolled out the 2020 Acadia and it’s everything you’d expect. Big, boxy, practical, well thought-out, dripping in tech and, most importantly, right in the middle of every Venn diagram of what marketing wants, engineering can do, and the customer can afford. In other words, ...

GMC announced on Monday that the Acadia has gotten its midcycle refresh, and now, the lineup looks more like a group of Sierra pickups from the front than mid-size SUVs. As part of its 2020 model year refresh, GMC’s midsize Acadia crossover gains three engine options and three additional cogs for its automatic transmission. It also gains an AT4 variant — the brawny-lux GMC sub-brand introduced on the 2019 GMC Sierra pickup, though a modest suspension lift isn’t a part of this AT4’s package. Once among the homeliest of GMC's offerings, the Terrain has morphed into a good-looking vehicle, and with a smooth ride and decent overall performance. Still, at my tester's top-level Denali trim, it should be a little more luxo inside. Find out more in my review at AutoTrader. [Author: Jil McIntosh]

Targets of Opportunity

–James Mahoney, Razor’s Edge Communications Every now and then, lightning strikes where a creative team sees a terrific, fast-turn opportunity to have a little fun. I think of them as targets of opportunity. We had one some years ago when we were in the midst of creating a series of mailers for a search-technology client. Early in December, the spark hit and we scrambled to make this idea happen in time: Looks like lightning struck for the GMC creative team when the LA Rams made it to the Super...

More Power to Ya: GM Might Make an EV Pickup. Maybe.

Hardly a month goes by without a manufacturer expressing an interest in making an all-electric truck for the masses. Indie manufacturers like Bollinger and Rivian have lit a fire under the traditional automakers playing in this segment, with Ford confirming last week that it is planning an EV F-150. Perhaps predictably, General Motors quickly jumped […] The post More Power to Ya: GM Might Make an EV Pickup. Maybe. appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

2020 GMC Sierra HD: New Towing Tech & An Allison Upgrade

The 2020 GMC Sierra HD pickup is due later this year with increased towing capacity. The Allison transmission gets a major upgrade on the taller, more robust 2020 Sierra HD. The list of towing technology is impressive: cameras, smartphone apps – the whole nine yards. The 2020 GMC Sierra HD pickup will soon be here, and besides having the design of a Soviet-era apartment building, it’s a pretty amazing piece of work. What’s also amazing is that I get to write about it, because most of the time,...

I drove a $77,000 GMC Yukon Denali to see if the huge SUV is worth the premium price — here's the verdict (GM)

The GMC Yukon Denali is about as upmarket as you can get without entering the true luxury realm. The full-size SUV has plenty of room for passengers and stuff, and it can tow a respectable 8,400 lbs. with four-wheel-drive and a beefy 6.2-liter V8 engine. I liked the Yukon Denali for its abundant power, smooth ride, and ability to tote a serious load. When people think of big luxury SUVs, nameplates such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator come to mind. That's understandable becaus...
