How to take a screenshot on a Google Pixel 2 or 3, including alternate methods

Taking a screenshot on a Google Pixel 2 or 3 is simple and consists of pushing the power and down volume keys simultaneously. There are also alternate ways to take a screenshot for those with a damaged phone. Screenshots can be immediately accessed in the top toolbar, but are also stored in the photos file for later viewings.   Like any new device, Google's phones come with a bit of a learning curve, especially for those who are switching from another type of phone, like an iPhone or Android...

Android’s Real Security Problem is the Manufacturers

Cameron Summerson If you’re running a Google Pixel handset, your phone is safe from a security hole that could let a PNG file completely wreck the system. If you’re using nearly any other Android handset, then your phone is vulnerable. This is a problem. Google recently released the February security update for Pixel devices, which closes a hole that would allow malicious PNG files to “execute arbitrary code within the context of a privileged process.” In simpler terms, the code can run at...

Everyone keeps hyping the cameras on Huawei's smartphones, so I tested up one of its top models against the best smartphone camera we've tried so far

I've received several requests to compare Huawei's smartphones against other phones from companies I typically cover, so I finally got a Huawei smartphone to see what all the fuss is about. I tried out the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and guess what. It's quite good! But it's not as good as all the hype claims it is.  When comparing the cameras on the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the best-in-class Pixel 3 from Google, I found myself confused as to how I should take photos with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. The ca...

Palm's $350 credit-card sized smartphone is supposed to liberate you, but it's got some big problems

Palm, the brand behind popular PDA-style phones in the early 2000s, has relaunched with a credit-card sized phone. The phone is supposed to act as a companion device to your regular cell that you can more easily use for nights out, workouts, or periods away from your full-fledged smartphone. The Palm phone costs $350 and is only available through Verizon. Because of Palm's hefty price and incapability with iPhones, it seems more sensible to just buy one of the many smartwatches out there that ...

This is likely our best look yet at Motorola's revamped Razr flip phone with a foldable display

Design patents filed by Motorola in December 2018 were discovered after a Wall Street Journal report said that a new Razr flip-phone-style device with a foldable display is on its way from Lenovo, Motorola's parent company. The design patents don't definitively reveal what the new device will look like, but they give us a general idea as to what it could look like.  The design patents show a device that's nearly identical to the original Razr V3 flip phone.  Last Wednesday, The Wall Street Jo...

Microsoft is finally killing the last of Windows phone, and wants you to switch to Android or iPhone instead

Microsoft will no longer deliver security updates to phones running the Windows 10 Mobile operating system starting on December 10, 2019.  The company suggests Windows 10 Mobile users should switch to Android or iOS devices.  Windows 10 Mobile users who stick to their Windows phone will be at a higher risk of security threats if they keep using their phone after Microsoft's cut-off date, but they'll still be functional. Microsoft will stop issuing security updates to smartphones running Windo...

Google paid $40 million for a mystery piece of smartwatch technology from fashion brand Fossil (GOOG, GOOGL, FOSL)

On Thursday, Google announced a $40 million deal to purchase smartwatch technology from the fashion brand Fossil. As part of the deal, Google will also acquire part of Fossil's R&D team that currently supports the mystery tech which neither company has given much detail about.  Fossil exec Greg McKelvey hinted that the deal with Google will result in a "new product innovation that's not yet hit the market."  Google doesn’t yet make a smartwatch of its own, but the deal could signal a growin...

Google's cheaper Pixel 3 'Lite' is totally leaked in a new video and comes with one of the most important features from the $800 Pixel 3 (GOOG, GOOGL)

A new video supposedly shows off the new Pixel 3 Lite mid-range smartphone from Google.  The Pixel 3 Lite is said to be a cheaper version of the regular Pixel 3 phones that Google released in October last year.  One of the biggest features on the Pixel 3 Lite is the same camera as the regular Pixel 3, which is often touted as having the best camera on any smartphone.  If the Pixel 3 Lite exists, it appears to be completely, totally, and utterly leaked in a new video from YouTube channel Andro...

I'm seriously doubting the Google Pixel 3's dominance as the best smartphone camera after taking it on vacation

I took two smartphones with me on a trip to Hawaii, and I ended up happier with the cheaper phone's photos. The $800 Google Pixel 3 is often crowned as the best smartphone camera, but I found the OnePlus 6T that starts at $550 took better photos.  The following is mostly my own personal opinion, so it's fine if you prefer the Pixel 3's photos. I recently went on a trip to Hawaii and thought it'd be the perfect place to take some photos with two different smartphones I brought with me.  The ph...

Apple's $24 million chip executive is reportedly on Intel's short list for new CEO, but it's not clear if he'd be willing to make that jump (INTC)

It's been six months and Intel still hasn't found a new CEO. Intel has reportedly put Apple senior VP of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji, on its wish list. If Intel could convince Srouji to become its new CEO, it would be a big win for the company. But that's a big if. If there's one sure-fire way for Intel to turn the fiasco of its six-month vacant CEO slot into a big win for the company, it's this: lure Apple senior vice president of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji, into becoming th...

Google tightened security by banning contractors and temp workers from its internal Groups forums, and it's raising new workplace problems (GOOG, GOOGL)
