An artist made new beer can designs based on the Pantone Colors of the beer inside

Spanish graphic designer Txaber made these very cool prints of beer can logo redesigns, each one labelled with the respective Pantone color that best represents the color of the beer inside. I'm an avid beer drinker, and I know that they come in different colors — but associating these drinks with the Pantone scale really gives me a new appreciation for the subtleties of all those golden-brown shades. — Read the rest

How To Use Mood Boards For Brand Identity Design

This article has been contributed by Gabe Nelson. If you’re like most graphic designers, you hate hearing the phrase, “Just work your magic.” Without some specific guidance or any idea of what a client is looking for – or looking to specifically avoid – you could wind up wasting hours of design time without ever creating anything usable. And simply throwing designs at the wall and hoping some “stick” is probably something you’re not eager to try, or waste your valuable time doing. Every web desi...

The Shed is a startup out of Virginia trying to revive the rental-for-everything business

Reducing consumption by expanding the notion of the rental economy and giving people access to tools and equipment has been something of a startup holy grail for some time. It’s a model that’s worked famously well for fashion and accessories (just ask investors in Rent the Runway), but has had not had the same resonance for white label goods. The Shed, out of Richmond, Va., hopes to change that. Launched by  Karen Rodgers O’Neil, a longtime marketing executive, and Daniel Perrone, a serial e...

Cognitive Ease: Tips for Designers

Cognitive ease. The term gained popularity after Daniel Kahneman’s bestselling book Thinking, Fast and Slow hit the shelves. In it, Kahneman says, “A general ‘law of least effort’ applies to cognitive as well as physical exertion. The law asserts that if there are several ways of achieving the same goal, people will eventually gravitate to the least demanding course of action.” In other words, our brains move toward what is easy to process and understand. Because presentations often combine both...
