Princess Grace Exhibit at Christian Dior Museum, Granville

Last week I took a spontaneous trip from Paris to see the Princess Grace Exhibit in Granville, Normandy. It was a bit of a long day trip, 3 hours and fifteen minutes each way from Gare Montparnasse.   I arrived about noon and it was a blustery day, with the sun teasing in and out of the thick clouds overhead.   The Christian Dior Museum is the home where Christian Dior grew up in the early 1900s. In his memoir, “ Christian Dior et Moi”, he states, "I have most tender and amazed mem...

Celebrating Haute Couture, Dior Takes Bold Approach With New Collections

Celebrating “haute couture as an antidote to fast fashion,” this year’s Christian Dior couture show was held at Paris’ Musée Rodin. The collection was showcased inside a large white cube amidst beds of roses as guests entered the museum. The show notes asked, “Is it possible to celebrate haute couture while also offering a critical reading of it?” Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri said of the show, “L’atelier is a space of the mind but also a real space. I wanted a collection that is n...

The V&A's Next Big Fashion Exhibit Was Already A Hit In Paris

The next major fashion exhibition to open in London was announced this weekend with a cryptic message delivered via topiary hedges outside the British Embassy in Paris. In town for the haute couture shows this week, fashion editors would recognize the silhouette almost immediately — even in bush form: Christian Dior’s iconic Bar jacket, an essential component of his revolutionary 1947 collection The New Look. The bushes told them that the rumor was true. The blockbuster Christian Dior: Designer ...

London's V&A Museum to stage 'reimagined' hit Dior expo

London's Victoria and Albert Museum said Sunday it plans a reprise in 2019 of a Christian Dior retrospective that last year drew record numbers to the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris. The show, to run from February 2 to July 14, promises to be "the largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever staged in the UK on the House of Dior," the V&A said in a statement. The Insane, Breathtaking History Of Dior Haute Couture

Few names in fashion carry as extensive and illustrative a history as the house of Christian Dior. The post-war-founded atelier caught the attention of European consumers with its clean lines — and the New Look, the flower, and notes of the Belle Époque — and would go on to make up 5% of France's total revenue, revolutionizing style around the world. It's safe to say, then, that the lifespan of Dior is so vast, it's impossible to put it all in one place. That's why, in the wake of yet another e...

The Met’s Next Costume Institute Exhibit: More Couture, Less Tech-Obsessed Than Expected

This morning, we took a break from the parade of NYFW fall 2016 shows to preview the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s upcoming Costume Institute exhibit (also this year’s Met Ball theme), Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. The exhibit, which explores how painstakingly detailed handwork contrasts — and, more often than not, dovetails — with machine-hewn technology, doesn’t open until May 5, timed to the Met Ball. We got to check out 11 of the looks that will be on display come May, inc...
