Get Out Your Headphones, ‘The Last Degree Of Kevin Bacon’ Is Here

One man’s quest for revenge and another man’s quest for a best friend — this is a wild ride Randy Beslow should’ve had a much different life. Thirty years ago when he auditioned for Footloose he wowed the casting director, the guy even gave him a wink and finger guns! FINGER GUNS! So when the actor who came in after him complimented Randy on his stunning white cotton tank-top, he didn’t have a single worry in his mind. He waited by his answering machine week after week, but the cal...

Alexander: Shaming, apparently, will be Astros’ strongest punishment

The world according to Jim: • Rob Manfred made it official Sunday. We might not have gotten to the shunning stage, but shaming appears to be the new official punishment of Major League Baseball. The commissioner believes he cannot issue any additional penalties to the Houston Astros for Signgate since he offered players immunity to talk – though, as he noted, woe be to any pitcher who comes in high and tight in response to the team’s cheating. So the next step is obviously up to the public. • “T...

Yankees' Torres thinks Astros cheated 'for sure' in 2019

Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres feels the Houston Astros cheated ''for sure'' during the 2019 season. Major League Baseball found that the Astros used electronics to illegally steal catcher's signs in 2017 and part of 2018 but not 2019. Houston players have apologized for rules violations in their 2017 World Series championship run and also in 2018 but deny any misdeeds in 2019, when the Astros beat the Yankees in the AL Championship Series for the second time in three ...

Mike Trout rips cheating Astros, calls for bigger punishment

Mike Trout thinks the Houston Astros should pay more dearly for their cheating ways. The Los Angeles Angels' three-time AL MVP ripped the Astros and questioned the discipline handed out by Major League Baseball on Monday after he reported to spring training. Astros should go full-heel and embrace the hate

Houston has become the team everyone loves to hate, and when you're in that role, you might as well play it big. Bat flips. Hard slides. Dugout dances. Crotch chops.

Manfred: No tolerance for beanballs in wake of Astros' scam

With baseball ablaze over the Houston Astros' cheating scandal, commissioner Rob Manfred met with several managers Sunday and told them to knock off any notion of get-even beanballs. ''I hope that I made it extremely clear to them that retaliation in-game by throwing at a batter intentionally will not be tolerated, whether it's Houston or anybody else,'' Manfred said. Cody Bellinger, Kris Bryant, Trevor Bauer and Carlos Correa were among the All-Stars recently tradi...

A's Mike Fiers won't respond to Carlos Correa, says Astros 'cheated as a team'

As the story keeps unfolding on the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal, A's pitcher Mike Fiers is trying to move on. When asked Sunday by the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser if he wants to respond to Astros shortstop Carlos Correa saying Fiers "should be man enough" to say Houston second baseman Jose Altuve didn't use the team's trash can method, the A's pitcher declined to comment. "We [the Astros] cheated as a team," Fiers said to Slusser.

Patrick Beverley tells Wojnarowski: 'Vinny Del Negro, he told me I didn't play defense'

Patrick Beverley's path to the NBA was an intriguing one, a true story of perseverance featuring many twists and turns. For those who haven't closely followed Beverley's career, the Chicago-native and current Los Angeles Clipper had a three-year career overseas before he really caught on in the NBA, landing a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets in 2013. Before landing with the Rockets, Beverley played for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (Ukraine), Olympiacos Piraeus (Greece), Spartak S...

How different generations are influencing our politics

Race, gender and class may be shaping our society, but increasingly generational change drives our politics. Over time this suggests a major realignment of America’s party system that could create either whole new parties or transform the current, and failing, political duopoly. One must look just at the results in New Hampshire. Bernie Sanders won by winning roughly half of voters under 30, according to exit polls, almost twice the percentage he gained among the rest of the electorate. In contr...

Hernandez participated in his first official game with the Galaxy, a preseason meeting with Toronto FC at Dignity Health Sports Park in front of 12,200. Hernandez wore the captain’s armband and played 77 minutes before being replaced in the 2-1 Galaxy loss. “If you had a bad performance, it’s good because you’re going to learn and if you have a good performance, y...

Adam Jones doesn't buy Carlos Correa's defense of Jose Altuve

In an attempt to defend Jose Altuve from suspicion into why the Astros star didn't want his jersey removed after his walk-off home run in this year's ALCS, Carlos Correa may have created another storm surrounding Houston's sign-stealing scandal. The Astros have been under siege at the beginning of spring training. In an interview with The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, Correa went to bat for his team, ripping Cody Bellinger for accusing Houston of cheating from 2017 to 2019 and cl...

War of words on Astros scandal now involves partial tattoo

Houston shortstop Carlos Correa took his turn escalating the situation to something a professional wrestling fan might appreciate, going after Los Angeles Dodgers star Cody Bellinger on Saturday for the reigning NL MVP's recriminations. In an interview with MLB Network, Correa responded to Bellinger's barbs from a day earlier by saying: ''The problem I have is when players go out there and they don't know the facts, they're not informed on the situation and they jus...

Whicker: Time to put the Astros controversy in the trash can

Cody Bellinger had barely jumped off his high horse when Carlos Correa hit the “reply” button and sent it 400 feet. What a shame it will be when the players replace the excitement of the Astrogate scandal with the droning nothingness of regular-season baseball. On Friday, Bellinger said the 2017 Houston Astros had cheated to win the World Series and that Jose Altuve had “stolen” the American League MVP award, although the award is decided by the Baseball Writers Association of America, which gav...

Carlos Correa rips Kurt Suzuki for claiming the Astros cheated during the 2019 World Series

While investigating the Astros sign-stealing practices, Major League Baseball found no evidence that Houston cheated during the 2019 season. Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki did not believe such, telling the Washington Post on Friday he thought Houston cheated during the 2019 World Series. The catcher specifically pointed out whistling coming from the Astros' dugout as the way Houston was breaking the rules.

Justin Verlander elected not to throw his scheduled bullpen session and No. starter Zack Greinke isn't even in camp yet, adding to an unusual start to Houston's spring training. Alexander: With Astros, responsibility should start at the top

The most jarring words from Thursday’s dog-and-pony show in West Palm Beach, Fla., when the Houston Astros met the media and did their sorry/kind of sorry act, came from the team’s owner and chairman, Jim Crane. “No, I don’t think I should be held accountable,” he said. Think about that. He is the controlling owner of a franchise that now has become the national symbol for cheating. He oversaw and enabled an organizational culture that fostered a win-at-all-costs ethos, a technology-over-people ...

Dodgers' Cody Bellinger blasts Astros, says Jose Altuve stole 2017 AL MVP

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger did not hold back when asked about the Houston Astros apologizing Thursday for illegally stealing signs. GLENDALE, Ariz. >> Justin Turner stood at his locker surrounded by reporters. Mookie Betts’ locker was just a few feet away.
