Tesla Owner Says Remotely Disabled Autopilot Features Have Been Restored (slashdot)

Tesla has restored the Autopilot driver assistance features it remotely disabled on a Model S, just days after the story was first reported by Jalopnik. The owner in question, who Jalopnik refers to as Alec, said he was contacted by a Tesla customer experience rep who "apologized for my troubles, told me that Tesla has restored all missed options" and "cited a miscommunication" as the reason why the company pulled the Autopilot features in the first place. The Verge reports: Alec had purchased t...

Tesla Restores Remotely-Disabled Autopilot to Used Model S

An anonymous reader quotes The Verge: Tesla has restored the Autopilot driver assistance features it remotely disabled on a used Model S, just days after Jalopnik published a story about the customer's ordeal. The owner, who Jalopnik simply referred to as Alec, confirmed to The Verge that the features are back after The Next Web spotted new Tesla Motors Club forum posts he wrote earlier this week. Alec said he was contacted by a Tesla customer experience rep who "apologized for my troubles, to...

Tesla finally returns Autopilot to second-hand Model S owner after secretly wiping it from his car

Tesla’s unsolicited removal of additional vehicle features appears to have been resolved, but it’s highlighted a much bigger issue with buying second-hand Teslas from third-party dealers. Last week, a report from Jalopnik revealed that Tesla surreptitiously removed the Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) and Full Self-Driving (FSD) features from a Model S that was sold second-hand, through a third-party dealer. On one hand, it looks like a quick attempt to make more money by selling upgrades multiple times...

Jeep built its new 'Desert-Rated' Gladiator to tackle the world's harshest off-road conditions

Jeep unveiled the Gladiator Mojave, a new trim for its popular midsize pickup, at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show last week.  For years, Jeep has awarded a "Trail Rated" badge to its most off-road-worthy vehicles, but the Gladiator Mojave is the first Jeep to be "Desert Rated."  The Gladiator Mojave is specially equipped for desert racing thanks to suspension upgrades, larger tires, a reinforced frame, and better ground clearance.  Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Customer Buys Used Tesla, Tesla Then Remotely Deletes His Autopilot and Self-Driving Features

I'm currently in the market for a used pickup truck for the farm, and seeking something that's 4WD. Imagine that I buy one--and then the original manufacturer decides to magically delete the 4WD capability because I didn't pay full sticker. That's essentially happened to a guy named Alec, but with Autopilot rather than 4WD. As told by Jalopnik, a fellow named Alec purchased a used 2017 Tesla Model S (presumably at less than sticker) equipped with both Enhanced Autopilot and Tesla's Self-Driving f...

Tesla Remotely Disables Autopilot On Used Model S After It Was Sold

little1973 shares a report from The Verge: Tesla has remotely disabled driver assistance features on a used Model S after it was sold to a customer. The company now claims that the owner of the car, who purchased it from a third-party dealer -- a dealer who bought it at an auction held by Tesla itself -- "did not pay" for the features and therefore is not eligible to use them. The features were enabled when the dealer bought the car, and they were advertised as part of the package when the car w...

Cruise calls for a new way to determine commercial readiness of self-driving cars

Cruise co-founder and CTO Kyle Vogt said Friday that disengagement reports released annually by California regulators are not a proxy for the commercial readiness or safety of self-driving cars. Vogt, in a lengthy post on Medium, called for a new metric to determine whether an autonomous vehicle is ready for commercial deployment. The post suggests that the autonomous vehicle company, which had a valuation of $19 billion as of May, is already developing more comprehensive metrics. The Californi...

Forget carbon-fiber monocoques and electric drivetrains, this cup is transportation design’s biggest win

The cup does for NASCAR races what the binoculars did for the Opera. Now mind you, this invention isn’t from any recent time. In fact, it was invented in 2009, over 10 years ago, and only just regained relevance after Jalopnik did a throwback. It’s simple, quirky, and a mystery as to why it never became the cultural norm post its release. Designed by Wieden+Kennedy for NASCAR and ESPN, the Cup and its unique profile helps patrons watch the race uninterrupted while sipping on a beverage of their ...

Tesla just announced a... DeLorean Monster Truck?

The Tesla truck is here. Its stainless steel hide can withstand sledgehammer blows, but its windows are not quite so impervious to enemy action. It's not clear how long it takes to go from 0-88 MPH, but I'm certain we'll find out. Jalopnik: Tesla chose to unveil this here and now because Musk loves Blade Runner. And to date, he’s made some wild claims about what it can do: out-truck a Ford F-150, outperform a Porsche 911, be “literally bulletproof” and ideally start under $50,000. It’s also “the...
