Comment on cold rice noodles with peanut-lime chicken by Jill Stein

This was delicious!!! I made it from the original Times recipe and it was definitely one of the most labor intensive weeknight meals of my life. My latest trick – buy rotisserie chicken and freeze half of each sauce. Cuts the time exponentially. The sauces are so flavorful that the shredded rotisserie chicken works just as well here. It’s become a staple in my house!

‘They Cheated’: Some Bernie Supporters Still Salty Over Clinton Nomination

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — It was hard to miss Cheri Pichone’s excitement about Bernie Sanders’ second presidential run. She showed up to a recent Iowa rally decked out in Sanders gear, complete with a figurine of the Vermont senator and progressive icon.  But underneath her exuberance, the 36-year-old was still mad about the last Democratic primary, when Sanders’ bid for the presidency fell short to Hillary Clinton. “They cheated,” she said, directing much of her anger at the Democratic National C...

Trump hires new lawyer who says not to hand over tax returns as Democrats demand

Beleaguered Donald Trump has hired a new lawyer, who has apparently told old Donnie he shouldn't give over his tax returns to Dems. “The Tax Code zealously guards taxpayer privacy,” the new Trump attorney William S. Consovoy says in his letter. “It would be a gross abuse of power for the majority party to use tax returns as a weapon to attack, harass, and intimidate their political opponents.” So, DARVO, as usual. Deny (and delay!), attack, reverse victim and offender. From Josh Dawsey and J...

Green Book Thinks You're So Articulate

Green Book won Best Picture at the Oscars last night. First, let me say that Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen are great actors. The plot to this movie?  Not so much. This outline of the story was original once... back when Mark Twain put Huck and Jim on a raft 130 years ago. Since then some variation on this fairy tale has been put on screen a thousand times: some saintly white person discovers that the people of India have rights and grievances; that street people struggle with unseen burden...

Jill Stein Is Belatedly Paying Off Her 2016 Campaign Fines

Jill Stein has finally paid her fines. Mostly. Stein’s 2016 Green Party presidential campaign committee cut the Federal Election Commission a $41,735.31 check in late December — an effort to resolve the committee’s mounting legal troubles. The payment came days after the Center for Public Integrity reported that Stein’s campaign owed the federal government about…

Love and Politics Go Awry in James Sturm's 'Off Season'

None Three things I strongly suspect are true about graphic novelist James Sturm: he is or has been married, he has kids, he doesn't have a dog head. Of the three, I'm least certain of the last. I also really, really hope he didn't vote for Jill Stein instead of Hillary Clinton in 2016, but honestly I have no idea. The latter comment is oddly central to Off Season, a graphic novel set in the aftermath of the 2016 US presidential election, which both frames and represents the marital turmoil of...

"Not only the fact that this president is not qualified to be the president, but the fact that both parties are consistently not doing what’s necessary on behalf of the American people and are engaged, every single day, in revenge politics..."

Said Howard Schultz, quoted in "Ex–Starbucks CEO Could Get Trump Re-elected/Howard Schultz thinks politics are broken, and may run for president as an independent. Democrats think that’s a terrible idea" (The Atlantic), which begins: "Before there was Jill Stein, there was Ralph Nader. Before there was Nader, there was Ross Perot. None won. All argued that the Republican Party and the Democratic Party were basically the same, and the only way to make real change was to ditch them both. Each was ...

Trump lover, Clinton fan and independent voter prepare for midterm election

One of them was excited and surprised. One was angry. And one was asleep. That was two years ago on election night. Today, on the weekend before Election Day 2018, the same three people can be described this way: confident, scared and awake. For the election of 2016, the Southern California News Group followed three voters before, during and after the presidential race. Mario Herrera of Murrieta was a Donald Trump supporter. Mark Sarvas of Santa Monica was a Hillary Clinton supporter. And Sabrin...

NYT Discloses New Bannon-Stone Emails In Run-up To 2016 Election

Emails published by the New York Times show Steve Bannon and Roger Stone discussing Wikileaks’ timed release of Clinton campaign emails in the immediate run-up to the 2016 election. The exchange portrays Stone as frantically trying to get in touch with Bannon via Breitbart’s Washington editor Matthew Boyle. “Assange — what’s he got? Hope it’s good,” Boyle wrote to Stone in an Oct. 3 email. The same day, Stone replied, “It is. I’d tell Bannon but he doesn’t call me back.” Boyle, who did not re...

‘It’s Always Sunny’ Creators on Their #MeToo Episode and If the Gang Would Support Trump [Interview]

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for its 13th season to answer some cliffhangers. Dennis (Glenn Howerton) was moving to North Dakota to be with his son, and Charlie (Charlie Day) and the Waitress (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) were going to try to have a baby. With Howerton’s involvement still ambiguous (one episode features a lifelike Dennis sex doll prominently), only two of the original Sunny creators were available for interviews at TCA. Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney spoke with /Film ...

Today in "do not give this asshole your money": the Michael Cohen Truth Fund

When Lanny Davis announced the launch of the Michael Cohen Truth Fund campaign through GoFundMe, he should have been laughed off of television. Appearing on the Today Show, Davis said his client "needs help from the American people to tell the truth." At that moment, Lanny became less like a lawyer and more like a televangelist. "We can save this nation from the firey pits of hell with the truth that only our dear brother Michael can deliver! Pick up the phone now and give in the name of the Lor...

"MSNBC Does Not Merely Permit Fabrications Against Democratic Party Critics. It Encourages and Rewards Them."

Writes Glenn Greenwald:During the 2016 primary and general election campaigns, various MSNBC hosts were openly campaigning for Hillary Clinton. One of the network’s programs featured Malcolm Nance (pictured, above), whose background is quite sketchy but who is presented by the cable network (and now by NBC News) as an “intelligence expert” and former intelligence officer for the U.S. Navy.On August 20, 2016, weekend host Joy Reid asked Nance about the supposed “affinity” for Russia harbored by J...
