In the wake of The Wolf of Wall Street, actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill planned to quickly re-team for a movie called The Ballad of Richard Jewell, the true story of a man who discovered a bomb at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia and then was falsely vilified as a suspect in the crime. Over the next several years, directors like Paul Greengrass (Jason Bourne), Ezra Edelman (O.J.: Made in America), and Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven) came and went as potential directors, but now Eastwoo...

10 Best Kyle Chandler Movies

10 Best Kyle Chandler Movies Initially catching the eye of audiences and critics for his leading performance on NBC’s Friday Night Lights, actor Kyle Chandler has since become a rising star in the world of feature film. Acting since the late 80s but not really getting a big break until his casting on the show in 2006, Chandler now exists as one of the go-to actors for dramas (and even the occasional lighthearted performance, strangely enough). Chandler has a sort of southern charm about him,...

‘The Beach Bum’ Review: Harmony Korine and Matthew McConaughey Team Up For an Alluring But Aimless Journey

Harmony Korine ’s The Beach Bum is an ode the enchantingly uninhibited. A Florida stoner folk legend about chasing life’s ever-euphoric bliss at all costs, torn straight from the pages Jimmy Buffett ’s secret diary. As Korine remarked during the film’s SXSW introduction, his latest lime-garnished cinematic cocktail is formulated as a direct response to negative forces that’ve defined mainstream culture over recent years. Mission accomplished – for damn sure – but there’s a stark irresponsibi...

Trailer for "Beach Bum," Harmony Korine's new weirdo stoner comedy

Writer/director Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo, Spring Breakers) is back at the shore for Beach Bum, a stoner burnout comedy starring Matthew McConaughey with Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill. The trailer reminds me a bit of Pee-wee's Big Adventure if the weirdo protagonist was on Sour Diesel instead of Purple Microdot. Beach Bum will premiere at SXSW and hit theaters March 22.

The Pastel Hair Color Trend Taking Over Hollywood

From Barbie dolls to baby showers to modern-day millennials to Janelle Monáe videos, the color pink has long had a fan base that's diverse and ever-changing. Right now Hollywood is showing the color some love with stars like Julia Roberts, Kylie Jenner, Amber Rose, and Halsey all dyeing their hair shades like baby, flamingo, and even neon Post-it pink.Although it seems like a great shade for someone just starting to tinker with hair dye, there are a few things to keep in mind if you're looking ...

‘State Like Sleep’ Star Katherine Waterston on Balancing Indies and Blockbusters [Interview]

Over the past decade, actress Katherine Waterston has built up a solid filmography of work that had made her one of the most eclectic and reliable performers around. After years of theater work and taking meaty supporting roles in such films as Michael Clayton (her first film), Taking Woodstock, Robot & Frank (as well as a semi-regular role on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), she made an impressive showing as Shasta Ray Hepworth in writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2014 marvel Inherent Vice, whic...

Apple needs to get serious about video. Here are 3 Hollywood studios it could buy to boost its new streaming service. (AAPL)

Apple should be in the hunt for a video content company, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a new report. The company's future growth is dependent on its services business, and a streaming video offering is expected and needed to drive that business, Ives said. Ives think the company has several potential and notable targets. Dan Ives thinks the time has come for Apple to open up its wallet and buy a piece of Hollywood. The LEGO Movie 2 Confirms Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie & Jason Momoa as Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn & Aquaman

The LEGO Movie already gave us the minifigure version of Justice League, and they all came together again in The LEGO Batman Movie. But when we see a few of the DC Comics superheroes in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, they’ll have different voices than we’ve heard before, but they’ll still be very recognizable. Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie and Jason Momoa have all been confirmed to lend their voices to the LEGO minifigure versions of their live-action DC Extended Universe characters Wonder Woman...

’21 Jump Street’ and ‘Men in Black’ Crossover is Dead

Back in 2014, when one of the biggest stories of the year was a huge hack of sensitive information from Sony Pictures, details on a potential crossover between the 21 Jump Street and Men in Black franchises came to light. In the years since, updates have been sparse with the exception of a title reveal calling the movie MiB 23. Unfortunately, the odds weren’t looking too good for the wild idea when Jonah Hill called the possibility of the sequel “kind of impossible,” and it turns out he was pro...

Movies You Won’t Believe Are Based On True Stories

At first glance, the script for War Dogs probably read like an outlandish action comedy. How could a couple of stoner dudes from Miami secure a $300 million contract to supply arms to the U.S. government? How could the Pentagon supply tens of millions of shoddy weapons to Afghani troops fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban? How could the U.S. government be tricked into purchasing decomposing, 40-year-old munitions that were culled from a Communist surplus stockpile or manufactured cheaply in China ...

Peter Sciretta’s Top 15 Movies of 2018

2018 has come to a close and I have finally been willing to commit to a list of this year’s best movies. Unlike the rest of the /Film staff, I decided to post a top 15 instead of a top 10, and I’ll explain why. I don’t think this was a great year for movies, but it was a very good one. Many of the films in this list are on nearly equal footing. I recently went back and rated and ranked films through the last decade and a half, and that gives me some perspective. If you were to look at my rating...

‘Eighth Grade’ Might Head the Class of First Features

From the stripped-down authenticity of Jonah Hill’s “Mid90s,” to the fed-up outcry of Carlos López Estrada’s “Blindspotting,” to the prestige Oscar-bait trappings of Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born,” 2018’s class of debut filmmaking talent built impressively on the promise of cinema’s future. Directors such as Ari Aster (“Hereditary”), Aneesh Chaganty (“Searching”), Josie Rourke (“Mary […]
