Trailer for "Beach Bum," Harmony Korine's new weirdo stoner comedy

Writer/director Harmony Korine (Kids, Gummo, Spring Breakers) is back at the shore for Beach Bum, a stoner burnout comedy starring Matthew McConaughey with Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffett, Martin Lawrence and Jonah Hill. The trailer reminds me a bit of Pee-wee's Big Adventure if the weirdo protagonist was on Sour Diesel instead of Purple Microdot. Beach Bum will premiere at SXSW and hit theaters March 22.

The Pastel Hair Color Trend Taking Over Hollywood

From Barbie dolls to baby showers to modern-day millennials to Janelle Monáe videos, the color pink has long had a fan base that's diverse and ever-changing. Right now Hollywood is showing the color some love with stars like Julia Roberts, Kylie Jenner, Amber Rose, and Halsey all dyeing their hair shades like baby, flamingo, and even neon Post-it pink.Although it seems like a great shade for someone just starting to tinker with hair dye, there are a few things to keep in mind if you're looking ...

‘State Like Sleep’ Star Katherine Waterston on Balancing Indies and Blockbusters [Interview]

Over the past decade, actress Katherine Waterston has built up a solid filmography of work that had made her one of the most eclectic and reliable performers around. After years of theater work and taking meaty supporting roles in such films as Michael Clayton (her first film), Taking Woodstock, Robot & Frank (as well as a semi-regular role on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire), she made an impressive showing as Shasta Ray Hepworth in writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2014 marvel Inherent Vice, whic...

Apple needs to get serious about video. Here are 3 Hollywood studios it could buy to boost its new streaming service. (AAPL)

Apple should be in the hunt for a video content company, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a new report. The company's future growth is dependent on its services business, and a streaming video offering is expected and needed to drive that business, Ives said. Ives think the company has several potential and notable targets. Dan Ives thinks the time has come for Apple to open up its wallet and buy a piece of Hollywood. Like others on Wall Street, Ives, an analyst who covers the iPhone maker fo...

The LEGO Movie 2 Confirms Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie & Jason Momoa as Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn & Aquaman

The LEGO Movie already gave us the minifigure version of Justice League, and they all came together again in The LEGO Batman Movie. But when we see a few of the DC Comics superheroes in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, they’ll have different voices than we’ve heard before, but they’ll still be very recognizable. Gal Gadot, Margot Robbie and Jason Momoa have all been confirmed to lend their voices to the LEGO minifigure versions of their live-action DC Extended Universe characters Wonder Woman...

’21 Jump Street’ and ‘Men in Black’ Crossover is Dead

Back in 2014, when one of the biggest stories of the year was a huge hack of sensitive information from Sony Pictures, details on a potential crossover between the 21 Jump Street and Men in Black franchises came to light. In the years since, updates have been sparse with the exception of a title reveal calling the movie MiB 23. Unfortunately, the odds weren’t looking too good for the wild idea when Jonah Hill called the possibility of the sequel “kind of impossible,” and it turns out he was pro...

Movies You Won’t Believe Are Based On True Stories

At first glance, the script for War Dogs probably read like an outlandish action comedy. How could a couple of stoner dudes from Miami secure a $300 million contract to supply arms to the U.S. government? How could the Pentagon supply tens of millions of shoddy weapons to Afghani troops fighting Al Qaeda and the Taliban? How could the U.S. government be tricked into purchasing decomposing, 40-year-old munitions that were culled from a Communist surplus stockpile or manufactured cheaply in China ...

Peter Sciretta’s Top 15 Movies of 2018

2018 has come to a close and I have finally been willing to commit to a list of this year’s best movies. Unlike the rest of the /Film staff, I decided to post a top 15 instead of a top 10, and I’ll explain why. I don’t think this was a great year for movies, but it was a very good one. Many of the films in this list are on nearly equal footing. I recently went back and rated and ranked films through the last decade and a half, and that gives me some perspective. If you were to look at my rating...

‘Eighth Grade’ Might Head the Class of First Features

From the stripped-down authenticity of Jonah Hill’s “Mid90s,” to the fed-up outcry of Carlos López Estrada’s “Blindspotting,” to the prestige Oscar-bait trappings of Bradley Cooper’s “A Star Is Born,” 2018’s class of debut filmmaking talent built impressively on the promise of cinema’s future. Directors such as Ari Aster (“Hereditary”), Aneesh Chaganty (“Searching”), Josie Rourke (“Mary […]

Wigs & More Wigs: All The Hair & Makeup Secrets Behind Mary Poppins Returns

We all know the 1934 story by P.L. Travers: An English nanny named Mary Poppins magically descends on a London family and uses kindness, discipline, and an odd sense of adventure to change the lives of the Banks family forever. Thirty years after Mary Poppins was first published, the fictional icon came to life on the big screen, and in Technicolor, with the help of Walt Disney, Julie Andrews, and Dick Van Dyke. Now, Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Van Dyke (!) are back to reprise the belo...

10 Celebrity Couple Tattoos We'll Never Get Over

Remember when becoming "Facebook official" was a thing? That was cute. Nowadays (and now that we know the social-media stalwart allegedly handed out our personal information to big tech companies), couples everywhere are confirming their relationship statuses with the much more dramatic — and permanent — display of matching tattoos. And if anyone takes their ink-worthy relationships seriously, it's celebrities. The one thing stars enjoy more than getting tattoos dedicated to their partners (of s...

How Jonah Hill Perfected The Glow-Up In 2018

In many ways, 2018 was the year of Jonah Hill. Between his belated Instagram membership, Netflix's Maniac, his directorial debut for Mid90s, and an onslaught of magazine covers featuring the Oscar nominee's face, it was nearly impossible to escape the guy. (Not like we really wanted to.)Given Hill's recent ubiquity, it didn't take long for us to realize one very important thing about the multi-hyphenate star: His glow-up is undeniable. In the fashion world, thanks to his tucked-in NBA jerseys a...

New ‘The LEGO Movie 2’ Trailer Reveals What Happens Right After the End of the First Movie

The LEGO Movie 2 marketing so far has really been playing up the post-apocalyptic side of the world of Bricksburg following the end of the first movie. For those who may not recall, after Lord Business was stopped, Master Builder Emmett (Chris Pratt) and all his friends suddenly had to face the prospect of aliens from the planet Duplo. We’ve assumed that didn’t go very well for Bricksburg based on the the city being in shambles in the previous trailers, but a new international trailer reveals e...

All Your Favorite Celebrities Are Going Green

Celebrity hair color trends, like seasons and tides, come and go. There once was a time when pink hair reigned supreme, then it was all about purple hues, then it was a take on blue denim, and finally, rainbow hair entered the beauty zeitgeist. Now it's shades of green that all the celebs are loving. For the past few years, it's popped up rather randomly on celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Katy Perry, and Kelis, but now even more celebrities are taking their 'dos to bold new heights, wearing ever...

These are the 10 best movies of 2018, and here’s why one towered over them all

There were a lot of significant events at the movies in 2018. Perhaps the main one being that people went to the movies. Went a lot, despite dire warnings of Netflix, Amazon Prime and other such streaming services taking computerized control of all good, 21st Century citizens’ moving picture viewing habits. Instead, folks flocked to cinemas, especially for anything with Marvel superheroes in it. Disney-owned Marvel Studios registered the third and fourth highest North American grosses of all tim...

Queens, Thieves & Mothers: The Best Performances By Women In Movies This Year (So Far)

The first time I remember being struck by a actress’ performance was while watching Gone With The Wind when I was 8 years old. Vivien Leigh’s Scarlett O’Hara leapt off my living room TV screen, a woman who could just as easily cut your face off out of spite as she could seduce you into oblivion. She was ambitious, and cunning, and sometimes heartless. But she was also fiercely loyal, and ready sacrifice for those she loved. In the years since, I’ve come to grapple with the many mitigating factor...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. This week we catch up with Napoleon Dynamite, take a look at the beginning of the drug trade in Columbia, find out what it takes to be funny o...

Remember Clark and Michael? We Do

Revisiting one of the funniest web series of the 2000’s Clark Duke and Michael Cera have been fan favorites in the quirky, offbeat comedy scene for decades. Their ability to stay in character through the most uncomfortably hilarious of moments and use their peculiarities to garner laughs put them way ahead of most other comedy actors in their generation. They’ve each graced the small screen, notably as George Michael Bluth (Cera) in Fox’s (and later, Netflix’s) Arrested Development and Cla...
