Congressman’s death triggers election, glut of candidates

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Walter Jones Jr.’s long-held congressional seat in North Carolina was expected to be up for grabs soon, but it happened more quickly than most people anticipated. Months after the Republican announced his 2018 campaign would be his last, Jones’ health faded. He died in February at age 76. Jones’ […]

How These Columbus Blue Jackets Were Built

At long last, the Columbus Blue Jackets and their fans have something to celebrate that will last a lifetime. The Blue Jackets swept the top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning out of the first round of the 2019 NHL Playoffs in stunning fashion. The hockey world will remember this for a long time. Hockey is a copycat league. If someone is successful at something, others will try to do the same thing in the hopes they can get a similar result. The question that a lot of people want to know is just ...

Chargers 2019 NFL draft needs: Finding Philip Rivers’ successor, upgrading offensive line

The Chargers spent top-15 draft picks on Melvin Gordon and Mike Williams to give Philip Rivers weapons for a late-career push at a Super Bowl. But the results didn’t show until last season when the Chargers transformed into one of the best offenses in the NFL en route to a playoff appearance. Rivers, 37, enjoyed his best season in years with a stacked offense that didn’t include tight end Hunter Henry, who missed all of the regular season with a torn ACL. With a healthy Henry, the Chargers are e...

This pricey CBD sheet mask is a fun skincare one-off

The internet is so full of CBD content these days that Lord Jones peppermint tincture is practically oozing from its pores. Now, the (non-psychoactive) cannabinoid is increasingly showing up in beauty products, including mascara, serums, and body soaps.Among the options is the cannabis company Beboe's new CBD line, Beboe Therapies. Trump’s Right About One Thing: There’s a Double Standard for Him

Photo Illustration by Lyne Lucien/The Daily Beast/Photos from GettyFor two years now, President Trump has promoted the narrative that he has been singled out for persecution by the special counsel and by his political opponents. The Mueller probe, he has vented, is a form of “Presidential Harassment,” a “Witch Hunt” aimed at unseating “your favorite President.” In the president’s apparent view, no other person—and certainly no other president—would have been treated so harshly. In the wake of the...

Vince Jones pays tribute to Van Morrison masterpieces

Australian jazz legend Vince Jones and the Astral Orchestra perform songs from Van Morrison’s classic albums Astral Weeks and Moondance. When The Beatles stopped touring and progressed to psychedelic rock and Dylan left folk and went electric, Van Morrison hired some of New York’s finest jazz musicians and recorded two of the classic albums of that golden era – Astral Weeks and Moondance. Both albums had enormous impact on aspiring musicians and singers around the world. Australian Jazz legend, ...

San Jose Sharks on the Brink

After a win to open their playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights, the San Jose Sharks have lost three straight and are now a game away from ending a season which once held Stanley Cup expectations.  There was no mystery when it came to what the Sharks needed to do. We even developed a checklist to follow and the team hasn’t.  On top of it, the playoffs often come down to health and the Sharks simply don’t have that either. Several top players are playing banged up, with one in par...

The Popdose Interview with Howard Jones

He’s been releasing albums on a fairly consistent basis since the beginning of his career, but for the first time in a long time, it feels like timing is on Howard Jones’ side. There’s a Republican in the White House – just like there was during Jones’ entire chart run from 1983 to 1992 – and the world is in desperate need of Jones’ trademark eternal optimism, which we’re pleased to say has not waned one bit.  Armed with a new album Transform, which features three collaborations with electronic...

Sharks Overwhelmed by Golden Knights

In their playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights, the San Jose Sharks are getting beaten in most every way imaginable. They are getting beaten at the start and beaten at the finish. They are getting beaten physically and mentally. Even when the Sharks have a man advantage, they can’t beat the Golden Knights; the Sharks’ power play has allowed two goals, which offsets the two they scored themselves. If all this wasn’t bad enough, Sharks netminder Martin Jones has seen nine goals go by...
