Pacific Opera Project gives ‘Don Giovanni’ a Dick Tracy-flavored staging

Seeking out the location of Pacific Opera Project’s production of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” amid the graffiti-covered landscape of L.A.’s Downtown Arts District, made it clear this was not going to be your traditional Music Center opera-going experience. It brought to mind Mozart’s decision to stage his final opera, “The Magic Flute,” at the Theater auf der Wieden in a working-class suburb of Vienna. It wasn’t fancy or glittery. There was plenty of food and drink and a general distain for high so...

A Mysterious Lucia at Forest Lawn

On September 10, 2017, Pacific Opera Project (POP) presented Gaetano Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in a beautiful outdoor setting at Forest Lawn. POP audiences enjoy casual seating with wine, water, and finger foods at each table. General and Artistic Director Josh Shaw greeted patrons in a “blood stained” white wedding suit. Since Lucia is a Scottish opera, it opened with an elegant bagpipe solo calling members of the audience to their seats.

County cricket: updates from Durham v Yorkshire, and more!

• Durham trail by 53 runs with seven second innings wickets remaining• Have your say on all the county action in the comments section 12.09pm BST Apart from that wicket of Michael Richardson, it’s been a fairly quiet start here at the Riverside. Keaton Jennings has gone beyond 50 for the fifth time this season, but at the moment he and Paul Collingwood are happy to survive. I can’t see that changing for some time, really. Maybe when the lead is in the region of 50? While the Yorkshire attack...
