Think Outside the Building

SYSTEMIC SOCIAL ISSUES cannot be solved by a few people working in isolation. They can be better addressed by breaking out of traditional approaches and collaborating with others. Rosabeth Moss Kanter likens these traditional approaches to castles. In Think Outside the Building, she writes, “Castles are any set of institutional structures that loom large and feel permanent. Castles are monuments to the past and to past thinking, museums of preservation.” Moving outside of these castles is the b...

Everybody loved Enes Kanter's dunks against the Hawks ... except the officials

Enes Kanter will be the first to tell you that he doesn't spend much time playing above the rim. But when Marcus Smart threw a bounce pass to Kanter cutting towards the rim with nothing between him and the basket late in the third quarter, Kanter cleanly caught the pass, rose up and threw down an emphatic jam that put Boston ahead 77-75. Everyone at the TD Garden seemed to love it except for the officials who hit Kanter with a technical foul.

Celtics-Raptors Instant Overreactions: Enes Kanter becoming C's most important bench player

Enes Kanter is becoming the Celtics' most important bench player Verdict: Not an overreaction Until Monday, it was uncertain if Kanter would even be able to suit up for the Celtics in this game. Because of an Interpol red notice put out after the Turkish government revoked his passport in 2017, Kanter hasn't been able to leave the United States because it was considered too dangerous. But with the help of Justin Trudeau and the Canadian government, Kanter was able to play.

Enes Kanter confirms he'll play in Toronto despite Turkish government threats

Enes Kanter will join the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day, after all. The Celtics play in Toronto against the Raptors on Wednesday, which posed a unique problem for Kanter: The Turkey native is an outspoken critic of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and in 2017, the Turkish government put Kanter's name on an international arrest list that deterred him from traveling outside the United States for fear of persecution. Since Toronto is in Canada, many wondered whether Kanter would make ...

Enes Kanter has some thoughts on LeBron James' weak reaction to NBA's China situation

Meanwhile, the NBA and its players are dealing with an authoritarian problem of their own. Of course, rather than face the stick from Turkey as Kanter has, they are instead being incentivized by the carrot of Chinese revenue to stay silent about the country's human rights violations and suppression of democracy in Hong Kong. China's threat to erase the league from the country like it has the Rockets and so many other dissenters has been effective; no major NBA players have publicly sup...

Enes Kanter can't get enough of Tacko Fall driving him around Boston area

Following the C's preseason win over the Cleveland Cavaliers at TD Garden, Kanter posted a minute-long video on Twitter and TikTok of Fall chauffeuring him around the Boston area in the "TackoMobil" while he gleefully narrated. Kanter seemed fascinated by Fall's ability to fold his 7-foot-6 frame into a car and got a kick out of the big man's size 22 (!!) shoe.

Celtics players open up about the dangers of defending Tacko Fall

BOSTON - Enes Kanter, the former WWE 24/7 champion mind you, recoiled from the collision like he'd taken one of Ric Flair's signature chops. Teammate Tacko Fall had been trying to establish post position in 1-on-1 drills this week and Fall's swinging elbow caught Kanter in the neck, and now Kanter stood in the paint, hands clutching his throat, as Fall made his move to the hoop. From the baseline, rookie Vincent Poirier doubled over in laughter, well aware of Kanter's plight.

Is APOC3 the driver of cardiovascular disease in people with type I diabetes mellitus?

In this issue of the JCI, Kanter et al. make a strong case for implicating apolipoprotein C3 (APOC3) as a central player in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease that is commonly seen in individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Kanter and colleagues suggest that insulin deficiency elevates plasma APOC3 as well as atherogenic triglyceride-rich (TG-rich) lipoproteins (TRLs). Using two mouse models of T1DM, the authors investigated APOC3-mediated inhibition of both TG hydrolysis by lipopr...
