Comment on pizza beans by Katie

These are fantastic. I made with one can of Goya butter beans, one 14 oz. can of fire roasted diced tomatoes that I pureed, added 1 tbsp. tomato paste and some fresh oregano from garden. I also used less onion, but that’s because the husband doesn’t really like onion (I know, wtf).

Comment on thick, chewy granola bars by Katie

I made these yesterday during shelter at home. We had all the ingredients and I wanted something sweet. I used a combo or cherries, cranberries, cashews, and a little bit of coconut. After I baked them, I sprinkled them with chocolate chips. My family loved them!!!

Comment on perfect meatballs and spaghetti by Katie

I made this last night (with all ground beef), and felt compelled to come here and say: it was so good and so so easy! I had made a meatball recipe from this site in the past (not sure which one) that involved frying the meatballs, and remember that it was both quite a long and difficult process, but also a delicious result. I told my husband I’d make it for him as a quarantine treat, and was fully prepared to spend two hours making it. We were both surprised and delighted when all was finishe...

Comment on chicken curry by Katie

This is very similar to a dish a friend from Afghanistan taught me to make over 20 years ago. The only difference? No ginger or spices, but the same exact process with only chicken, yogurt, garlic, onion & tomatoes. I’m not sure if the lack of spices is regional or their family preference. Still very good and worth a try!

Comment on new york cheesecake by Katie

In reply to Elvi. Mine did the same! No puffing, but browned. Caught it pretty quick, but still a pretty brown top. Did I overmix it maybe?

Comment on triple coconut cream pie by Katie

Wonderful! I can’t have egg, so I subbed out the eggs for 2 tbsp of corn starch in the custard and I think it worked perfectly. Added the corn starch with the dry ingredients before adding the milks.

In reply to Susa. I can’t speak directly to this recipe because I haven’t made it, but I have successfully subbed using a mix of 50/50 white vingear and water + a pinch of sugar. it’s not perfect but gives you that balance of mild acid/sweetness!

Olympians Have Another Year to Prepare for Tokyo. It’s a Blessing and a Curse.

The life of an Olympic athlete can be challenging and austere, and the training schedule can be relentless. Most athletes wanted a postponement, though even that has its challenges.

5 ways pets can pay off on your tax return

Image: National Day Calendar It's a rare day on the internet. Dogs are getting more attention than cat videos. Actually, it's baby dogs who are the focus, since today, March 23, is National Puppy Day. Personally, I'm a cat, not dog, person. But I know that regardless of your pet preference, animals bring a lot of good to our lives. And in some very specific cases, they also might be able to help you reduce your federal tax bill. Here are 5 potential ways that Fluffy, Fido or whatever you ...

'It Started As A Joke' Doc Trailer About Eugene Mirman's Comedy Fest

"I do think that comedy has the power to do more than just make people laugh." Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for an indie documentary titled It Started As a Joke, a look at the decade-long run of the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival in Brooklyn, the alternative comedy scene in New York, and Eugene's personal life. This first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival last year, and is arriving on VOD in April for those curious to watch. It Started As a Joke was originally conceived as a con...

Comment on chickpea and kale shakshuka by Katie

I made a batch of this to freeze–cuz, I’m eatin in for the next month at least–for obvious reason. Boy, lemme tell ya, $h!t is g00d. I made some very minor tweaks but mostly stayed true to the recipe. 1. I made my own chickpeas using Deb’s recipe and had enough bean juice for the “1/2 cup broth or stock.” This move was super ace. 2. I used a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes. This made enough for me to have 4 equal pint jars (and a half for snacking!). I put those puppies in the freezer and will be ...

DreamWorks Animation Announces She-Ra And The Princesses Of Power Season Five Release Date May 15

Surprisingly (perhaps only to me), one of the best shows to come along in a while is She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, and the amazingly fun effort is returning for it’s fifth and final season on May 15th. The DreamWorks Animation show which airs on Netflix has already been nominated for Emmy, Critics’ Choice, and GLAAD Media Awards. While some shows, especially animated adventures, might go on for years without ultimately putting characters in especially novel circumstances, the fifth s...

DreamWorks’ beloved She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will be debuting its final season on Netflix this May. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power will premiere its fifth and final season on Netflix on May 15. DreamWorks animation announced that the upcoming fifth season would be its ...

Abadazad #2 - Mike Ploog art & cover

Mike Ploog Abadazad v1 #, 2004 - Katie enters the wondrous world of Abadazad, where the creatures and characters somewhat deviate from the children's book. Mike Ploog lacks no imagination in visualizing the characters and settings. His designs are somewhat familiar in some scenes and more unexpected in others. Thoughtful pacing and layouts nicely support the overall narrative. And did I [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Comment on chicken, leek, and rice soup by Katie

This soup is an attitude adjustment in a bowl. North Idaho is cold, windy, snowy, and there is an uncertainty in the world…until you eat this soup! I made it exactly as written, adding only the parsley as a post dishing topper. Adding the extra salt was huge with my low sodium broth. It cooks up quick, tastes delicious, and I am in a way better mood now. Thanks!

Watch a suspected thief instantly discouraged by a fun DIY crime deterrent

Katie and Josh Camarena of Portervilla, California came up an excellent theft deterrent during a rash of crime in their neighborhood. From LADbible: In a post on Facebook, she explained: "We have been having issues with people coming into our neighborhood to try and steal tools out of vehicles (And anything else they can get their hands on). "Our flood light didn't seem to scare them off, so we decided to have a little fun with a motion activated sprinkler that has an impressive amoun...

Comment on salted caramel pretzel blondies by Katie

In reply to Marisa. This happened to me as well! I made the recipe to the letter but there was so much butter in the batter, it never baked enough to form. The outside edges were salvaged, but it was a gooey mess.

Take a Sneak Preview Tour of the ‘Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash’ Ride Coming to Universal Studios Hollywood

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to walk through The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash ride at Universal Studios Hollywood as it was still being constructed and learn new details about the upcoming attraction. Universal Studios is known for its screen-based rides, and it makes sense – their Hollywood theme park is built in a confined space and there isn’t a lot of room for big roller coasters. But for The Secret Life of Pets: Off The Leash, I was surprised to find that they are changing ...

FX on Hulu’s First Streaming Series, Devs, Is a Tech Thriller With Cosmic Ambitions

Alex Garland keeps his mind trained on the near future, perpetually imagining that the dire consequences of millennia of human folly are waiting just around the corner to mug us. Published in 1996, his first novel The Beach envisioned the fallout of sending a generation raised on screens into a state of nature. His scripts for Sunshine, Never Let Me Go and 28 Days Later (which I wouldn’t advise revisiting amid the coronavirus pandemic) delved into dystopia and apocalypse. In his first two f...
