"Can only have been painted by a madman."

Words by Edvard Munch in tiny letters in the most famous version of "The Scream," The Art Newspaper reports. Can we be sure that the artist wrote these words? Mai Britt Guleng, the curator of Old Masters and modern paintings at the National Museum of Norway, says yes. First, the handwriting matches up to other samples of Munch's handwriting. Second, the writing is tiny: “Had this been an act of vandalism by another person, the size of the letters would probably have been larger and the whole tex...

Kiki's Delivery Service Stationary

Ok, long story short one of my coworkers is leaving the cvs I work at to move higher up in the company and this coworker is a really good friend of mine who I will miss dearly, so I decided to make her a going away gift. Like me she has cats (one of them looked like one of my cats, like alternate twin from another litter identical) and one day I saw she had merchandise from Kiki's delivery service aka the first Japanese anime movie I ever saw. And as I got to know her she said she watched anime ...

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s Casket Arrives At Supreme Court For Memorial Service

WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of people are expected to pay their respects at the Supreme Court to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the women’s rights champion, leader of the court’s liberal bloc and feminist icon who died last week. Even with the court closed to the public because of the coronavirus pandemic and Washington already consumed with talk of Ginsburg’s replacement, the justice’s former colleagues, family, close friends and the public will have the chance Wednesday and Thursday to ...

Chief Justice John Roberts Remembers Ginsburg: ‘A Jurist Of Historic Stature’

She was 87. Ginsburg died of complications from metastatic pancreatic cancer, the court said. Her death just over six weeks before Election Day is likely to set off a heated battle over whether President Donald Trump should nominate, and the Republican-led Senate should confirm, her replacement, or if t...

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, feminist pioneer and progressive icon, dies at 87

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a trailblazer who fought for gender equality as a lawyer and became a beloved hero of the progressive movement as a justice, died on Friday of complications from pancreatic cancer. When she was confirmed to the Supreme Court in 1993, Ginsburg was a reserved and relatively unknown court of appeals judge, but during the course of her 27 years on the court she became an improbable pop-culture icon, inspiring everything from an Oscar-nominated documentary film to her own action ...

An appreciation for the animated food in Studio Ghibli films

"Anime food is an escape for a lot of people. It has a very soothing effect," says Christina Song, curator of the anime feed Instagram @anime_food. Indeed, food is treated like a character in many anime films and TV shows, including the wondrous work of Studio Ghibli. For example, see My Neighbor Totoro (above) and Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service (below). At Serious Eats, Kiera Wright-Ruiz explores "Miyazaki's Magical Food:" The food scenes in Studio Ghibli productions, p...

Amazon has released the trailer for The Last Narc, a four-part docuseries that promises to show the story of the “real Narcos.” The tagline is in reference to the hit Netflix crime drama Narcos, whose most recent season Narcos: Mexico has more than a few crossovers with The Last Narc. The Last Narc explores the 1985 kidnapping and murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, the character who Michael Peña played in Narcos: Mexico. ‘The Old Guard’ Director Gina Prince-Bythewood and Star KiKi Layne on Filming Hard-Hitting Action and Planning a Trilogy [Interview]

Not all comic book properties are created entirely equal. First published in 2017, the highly popular Image comic series  The Old Guard concerns a small group of immortal warriors who live in secret, only surfacing for missions that promise large sums of money—and usually they have to be able to morally justify the mission (which typically involves killing, although they aren’t strictly assassins). Although they have lived off the radar for hundreds—perhaps thousands—of years with no explanat...

Comment on strawberry milk by Kiki

I usually replace buttermilk with 2 T vinegar and fill the rest of the cup with milk for recipes Iike pancakes and such. Think it would work or would it be too gross? I mean it does the trick when I’m baking and achieves the same consistency and flavor (-ish). I want to make this but don’t want to bother with ordering buttermilk during a pandemic… :)
