Neighborhood Goods raises $5.75M to reinvent the department store

Neighborhood Goods, a startup rethinking the traditional department store experience, is announcing that it has raised $5.75 million in seed funding. Co-founder and CEO Matt Alexander told me via email that while the largely static layout and offerings of a department store provide a degree “consistency and reliability,” they’re also “dull and unchanging,” as well as “fairly transactional with little more to provide.” So instead, Neighborhood Goods will allow around 15 brands to create their own...

How They Wear It: Lola Rose Thompson

See how the bright and bold LA artist Lola Rose Thompson wears her favorite FP pieces.  On the industrial side of the downtown LA Arts District sits a hidden studio exploding in color. Large canvases saturated in paint hang from the walls and potted green plants grow up from the concrete floor. Speckles of bright color decorate the floor, as if each drop has been placed on purpose. The smell of paint intoxicates the air. Up from behind two work tables, Lola Rose Thompson appears. She’s weari...
