Leaked NRA Documents May Spell Trouble For Wayne LaPierre

Leaked documents suggest that NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre may have used an NRA vendor to conceal costs for luxury Italian suits and European vacations from the NRA’s books. Non-profit attorneys told Josh Kovensky that the documents are a “goldmine” for New York Attorney General Letitia James’ probe into the gun rights group. Read more about why the documents may spell trouble for LaPierre here. [Author: Allegra Kirkland]

Leaked Documents Are ‘Goldmine’ For New York Attorney General’s NRA Probe

The company behind NRATV was paying for National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre’s expensive Italian suits and foreign travel, before charging at least some of those costs back to the NRA itself.  Sound like a puzzling arrangement? You’re not alone.  New York state non-profit attorneys told TPM that the setup raised serious questions about whether LaPierre was using an NRA vendor to conceal costs for his luxury purchases from the organization’s books, and could be fodder for an on...

Opinion NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits In Indianapolis, Indiana 2019 USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The National Rifle Association gathered for 2019 Annual Meeting of Members last month amid a firestorm of rumors, accusations, and threats. It promised to be the most contentious Members' Meeting in decades, and it didn't disappoint on that score. But the gathering, which was preceded by rumbling thunder, leading into lightning cracks and howling winds, concluded with a hollow, unsatisfying whimper. F...

This whole NRA thing gets weirder and weirder

And I’m not certain what to think about all of it. But I’m with Sebastian in that I will still support NRA. Infighting about the one true Scotsman doesn’t help us. Hang together and all that. What others are saying: Allen West comes out against the NRA’s current leadership. NRA accused of not disclosing lobbying fees. LaPierre’s excesses discussed here and here. People who don’t like the NRA still don’t like the NRA, surprising no one.

At the N.R.A., a Cash Machine Sputtering

How The NRA’s Controversial Gambit To Fix Its Finances Backfired

The National Rifle Association emerged from its annual convention last week with a veneer of stability. Its leader Wayne LaPierre managed to quash a takeover attempt by now-ousted President Oliver North, winning reelection as executive vice president in a unanimous vote of top board members. But beneath the surface, the organization is in turmoil. New York Attorney General Letitia James is conducting a wide-ranging investigation into alleged financial mismanagement at the NRA, while th...

A Quest To Track Down The Source Of NRA CEO LaPierre’s Fine Italian Suits

In a recent New Yorker feature alleging rampant self-dealing between senior officials at the National Rifle Association and its top advertising vendor, Ackerman McQueen, a former fundraiser for the NRA described a board member telling him, “N.R.A. is not fancy Italian shoes with thousand-dollar suits. N.R.A. is the backbone of this country, wearing bluejeans and boots.” Except sometimes it’s not. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that over 15 years, NRA Chief Executive Officer Way...

So Just How Bad Are The NRA’s Troubles?

Explained. If the New York attorney general Letitia James found sufficient cause and evidence that the NRA was violating the rules and regulations governing nonprofits, she could attempt to force the dissolution of the organization. This would undoubtedly set off a massive legal fight and ironically, be one of the most galvanizing threats the NRA could ever want. You want to get a lot more donations and renewed memberships? Argue that the New York state government is attempting to destroy the or...

Bruins Thrive Through ‘War of Words’

In a matter of five seconds and with just 22 words, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Brandon Dubinsky may very well have provided the Boston Bruins with the push needed to go all the way. Following Columbus’ 3-2 double-overtime victory on Saturday evening at TD Garden in Boston, which evened the teams’ Eastern Conference Semifinal 1-1, the 11-year NHL veteran took a shot at the home crowd, which he clearly doesn’t feel compares to those at Nationwide Arena. Facts are facts, I suppose. ...

Defeating the Other Side’s Long Game

Chris W. Cox, Donald J Trump, Wayne LaPierre United States – -(AmmoLand.com)- Let’s face it, far too often, anti-Second Amendment extremists beat Second Amendment supporters in long-term planning. All too often, Second Amendment supporters are caught up in the short-term – battling each other over the minutiae of this bill or that primary election. Or when a case like Heller or McDonald is won, too many let up a little. On the other hand, anti-Second Amendment extremists have embedded themsel...

Wayne LaPierre re-elected NRA chief, survives power struggle

The NRA board voted unanimously in favor of LaPierre, who has been with the NRA for 40 years and has helped convert it into one of the most powerful lobbies in the United States, expanding gun rights even as the United States has endured multiple mass shootings. North, a revered figure in conservative political circles for his role in the Iran-Contra affair as an aide to President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, became NRA president a year ago.

Can The National Rifle Association Be Saved?

I doubt it, but let’s rehearse some recent events before diving too far into my assessment. Even most NRA members, it would appear, still do not get that the issue of bump stocks (and the ban dictated by the stroke of a pen by one man) isn’t about bump stocks. “You know what? I didn’t even know what a bump stock was,” said Patrick Callahan, 61, from Wyoming. “I have no problem with a bump stock being banned, to be honest with you. I think there’s always balances.” Sebastian is still arguing, se...
