Sean Avery suggests Auston Matthews fight at center ice in bizarre, profane rant

The 10-year NHL veteran unloaded a profane rant on Instagram outlining his thoughts on Jake DeBrusk's hit on Patrick Marleau and Nazem Kadri's retaliation. Here's Avery's take slide-for-slide on his Instagram story: Slide 1: “That f—ing hit that Jake DeBrusk threw on Patrick Marleau in the Leafs-Bruins game was a dirty f—king hit. That's not a particularly hot take.

Maple Leafs Learn Valuable Lesson

Trailing 5-2 in the latter stages of the second period to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Toronto Maple Leafs looked destined for a third straight home loss Friday night. Then, something changed. Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin notched two goals in quick succession, cutting the deficit to 5-4 heading into the intermission. Although neither goal will make the “plays of the week,” they were the turning point of the game. During the second intermission, Muzzin shared some words of wisdom with TSN’s Mark ...

Morning Line- Dan Shaughnessy

Toronto’s anthem songstress Martina Ortiz-Luis turned the microphone over to Leafs fans in a passionate perfomance of “O, Canada!” which of course reminded me of Casablanca’s best scene: tears streaming down the face of a defiant Yvonne when French refugees overwhelm a German anthem, definatly standing and singing “La Marseillaise” at Rick’s cafe. -Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe where you can read more on Leafs/Bruins. Making a reference to Casablanca and a hockey game is okay wit...

Leafs & Bruins: 3 Takeaways from Game 2

The Toronto Maple Leafs have given up 12 goals in the first two games of their best-of-seven series with the Boston Bruins, and very quickly it’s turning into a potential four-game sweep of the blue and white. While the Leafs were able to get three behind Tuukka Rask in Game 2 on Saturday, the Leafs still gave up seven to a Bruins team that is far more confident and not showing any signs of giving that up. Now, headed back to Toronto in a 2-0 hole, what should we take out of the way both teams p...

Leafs, Bruins and the Numbers Game

With Game 1 right around the corner for the first-round series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, the debate is heating up in predicting who will take home the series win. While the Leafs will certainly go into the best-of-seven as underdogs, finishing seven points back of the Bruins during the regular season, they had a good year when it came to playing their rivals from Boston. For some, the nightmares of five years ago still linger in the hearts of Leafs Nation. While others l...

Maple Leafs and Bruins, Cue the Nightmares

Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs watched on carefully as the Boston Bruins took on the Florida Panthers on Sunday in the final game of the NHL’s regular season. While the Panthers had already been eliminated from playoff contention, the outcome determined whether the Leafs would meet the Bruins or Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. Related: Bruins & Leafs Rivalry Revived in Playoffs? The scenario was pretty simple. The Bruins needed a win against the Panthers to take down the...

The Wings This Week

from Ansar Khan of Mlive, Here are five things to watch this week: Russo debut; another call-up on D needed? Robbie Russo, the top defense prospect for the Grand Rapids Griffins, will make his NHL debut Tuesday due to Ryan Sproul's injury (sprained knee, will have MRI Tuesday). The right-shooting Russo has seven goals and 31 points this season and 12 goals, 70 points and a plus-54 rating in 127 games over two seasons. The Red Wings have only six healthy defensemen, for...
