Was the media biased against the Covington students?

Conservatives accuse media organizations of trafficking in stereotypes that Trump supporters are bigots. Two recent incidents have strengthened conservatives’ belief that liberal journalists are implacably opposed to Donald Trump and his supporters: the 18 January encounter between a group of Kentucky students and a Native American activist on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and the claims by Jussie Smollett that he had been attacked by hoodlums shouting racist and anti-gay slurs.

'Half a Million Strong' Studies the Intersection of Crowds and Power at Rock Festivals

None As a rock music critic who attended countless concerts and festivals and published in Salon, Entertainment Weekly, and elsewhere between 1981 and 2003, Gina Arnold could have written a behind-the-scenes memoir about the music scene. Instead, she wrote Half a Million Strong: Crowds and Power from Woodstock to Coachella, a bracing study of music festivals, their audiences, and the cultural myths that surround them. The real conditions of the rock festival are not pretty, yet rock festivals s...

Why Trump’s Inauguration Was So Sleazy, Even For Washington

Presidential inaugurations can seem like a parody of D.C. influence-peddling. Corporate lobbyists, foreign dignitaries and political mega-donors converge on the capitol for days of glitzy events, waltzing alongside incoming administration officials at inaugural balls and networking with members of the U.S. Congress over plates of lobster. As reports proliferate about New York prosecutors’ investigation into President Trump’s 2017 inaugural committee, it can be difficult to tease out the stand...

Anti-Trumpers Only Embarrass Themselves

The Left’s journalists and artists are so deeply consumed by vile, vicious, venomous rage towards President Donald J. Trump and his supporters that they have become incapable of clear thought. • Leftist journalists and “entertainers” perpetrated an appalling rush to misjudgment regarding the MAGA-hat-wearing students from Kentucky’s Covington Catholic High School. Opinion: America mocks natives at every turn

Let's be absolutely clear about something here: Whatever else may have been said about it or our country's reactions to it, the racist disrespect of Nathan Phillips, a Native American elder, by Nick Sandmann and his MAGA-hat clad classmates of Covington Catholic High School at the Lincoln Memorial is nothing new. In fact, it's quite the common thing. In this increasingly depraved society, that kind of behavior is often encouraged or excused as just good ol' American fun.
