A dark fan theory explores the illicit affair between Elmo's mom and his Uncle Jack

The recent Sesame Street seminar on racism has caused quite a stir on the Internet, thanks in large part to a scene in which Elmo's father, Louie, explains why people are protesting police brutality. Beyond its socio-political importance, many were aghast to learn that Elmo — who is a muppet — also has a biological family. Elmo has parents?? — Mario Candelaria (@TheOtherMarioC) June 8, 2020 But Elmo doesn't just have a dad. According to his Muppet wikia entry: E...

10 Notes on Looper (2012), Schopenhauer, and the Reciprocal Nature of Violence

1) "‘Does solving a problem by finding the right person and killing them ever work? Or does it create a self-perpetuating loop of violence?’ And that to me is not a theoretical, time-travel question. That’s a real-world question.” --Rian Johnson2) Looper's straightforward vision of the future that still seems accurate today: more homeless, more graffiti, more guns, no middle class.3) I thoroughly enjoyed Looper, in part because I am a huge fan of Johnson's recent Knives Out and Brick (2005), wa...

How Time-Travel Works in Fiction: A Concise Breakdown of How Time Travel Functions in Popular Movies, Books & TV Shows

As least since H.G. Wells' 1895 novel The Time Machine, time travel has been a promising storytelling concept. Alas, it has seldom delivered on that promise: whether their characters jump forward into the future, backward into the past, or both, the past 125 years of time-travel stories have too often suffered from inelegance, inconsistency, and implausibility. Well, of course they're implausible, everyone but Ronald Mallett might say — they're stories about time travel. But fiction only...

ComingSoon’s 10 Best Movies of the Decade

ComingSoon’s 10 Best Movies of the Decade The 2010s were a decade of mindblowing films that took us through turbulent times with style and substance. It was the decade when superhero flicks came into their own, and horror became a dominant force in the industry. This decade also saw a downturn in the mid-budget studio picture (comedies, star-led dramas), yet still a few managed to rise above. Overall it has been an impressive ten years, and is counting down the best of the best...

Learning How to Cheat: Ranking the Films of Rian Johnson From Good to Best

Rian Johnson burst through the wave of independent filmmakers of the mid-2000s with a debut film that was defiant in its design, and has translated its success into such heights that he’s directed one of the most talked-about franchise entries of the new century. In between making his five features, including Knives Out , opening this week, Johnson has directed some seminal episodes of the brilliant TV drama Breaking Bad (including a final-season episode that many critics and fans accur...

‘Knives Out’ Director Rian Johnson on the Beauty of a Killer Monologue and Crafting a Mystery Evocative of 2019 [Interview]

When I sat down to speak with director Rian Johnson the day after his new murder mystery thriller, Knives Out, closed Fantastic Fest 2019, I had one question on the top of my tongue. That question: “What defines a Rian Johnson movie?” After all, Johnson has spent his career leaping between genres, from grim modern noirs like Brick to quirky comedies like The Brothers Bloom to serious-minded science fiction like Looper and even giant blockbusters like Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I had a theory abo...

First Trailer for Ang Lee's Sci-Fi Film 'Gemini Man' Starring Will Smith

"I think I know why he's as good as you - he IS you." Paramount has unveiled the first official trailer for Gemini Man, the next film from Ang Lee (following Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk). This sci-fi action thriller is about an aging hitman, as played by Will Smith, who finds himself facing off against a younger clone of himself. A bit like Looper, but about a clone, without any time travel. Lee shot this at 120FPS, also known as HFR (High Frame-Rate) video, and is apparently still tryin...

‘Glass’ Spoiler Review: Breaking Down M. Night Shyamalan’s Disastrous Sequel to ‘Unbreakable’ and ‘Split’

“Please enjoy this film that took 19 years to make!” This sentence greeted me as I sat down at a pre-release screening of Glass last week, as the final part of a letter from its writer/producer/director M. Night Shyamalan to the audience. The upshot of the letter was basically, “Please don’t spoil Glass” (which I’m about to do, so…sorry!) but I could not help but latch onto that last sentence as I steeled myself for the crossover between two of Shyamalan’s earlier films, Unbreakable and Spl...

‘Unbreakable’ Honest Trailer: Featuring the Power of Long, Meaningful Staring

After The Sixth Sense and before going downhill fast with as the years went on, M. Unbreakable focuses on a simple security guard named David Dunn (Bruce Willis) who slowly discovers that he has superpowers. However, as Honest Trailers illustrates, the real superpower on display in Unbreakable is the power of long, meaningful staring. Watch the U...

Datalooper lets you play Ableton Live with your feet

Ableton may have called their event “Loop,” but that doesn’t mean there’s an obvious way to control the software’s looping capability via hardware out of the box. And t...

The Ten Best Emily Blunt Movies

The Ten Best Emily Blunt Movies Emily Blunt’s less than a decade career has been among the most memorable of any modern actor. She has balanced work in indie darlings, big-budget films and later this year is stepping into perhaps her biggest role yet. Before she was cast to grace the screen as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns, Blunt has yet to find a role to earn her an Oscar nomination. However, she certainly seems to be an actress destined to take that stage someday. In the meantime, we...

Chopper Or Looper

Hi PingSkills I started playing table tennis about one year ago, and i have always played with two inverted rubbers with an offensive blade. My problem is that i play my backand well when i am close to the table, but with the forehand i feel better when i am at mid distance. About one week ago, i started practing with long pips backhand chop, and i felt very well with this style of playing. Should i change from an offensive style that i practied about one year to a modern defensive style?
