It’s time to marvel at the vocal stylings of Virat Kohli (and also Rishabh Pant) in this amazing/awful pimple cream ad

It’s hard not to feel that the role of ‘ambassador’ has been somewhat devalued in recent years by the marketing industry. It used to be a high-ranking diplomat. But now… “I am very excited to be a part of Team Himalaya and be the ambassador for their Men’s Face Wash range,” said Virat Kohli about his involvement in this quite magnificent ad alongside Rishabh Pant. When we wrote about what it’s like to be Virat Kohli a couple of years back, we highlighted how Indian notions...

Clippers view Orlando like a basketball deployment

The Clippers are back at it – after the three-month COVID-19-caused hiatus and in the midst of a nationwide reckoning over racial justice – working toward what they hope will be the franchise’s first NBA championship. That title, whomever takes it, will come not with an asterisk but with a gold star, Coach Doc Rivers said Wednesday in a Zoom call with reporters. Knowing the team that wins it all in the Orlando bubble in October will need even more mental fortitude than typically is required, Riv...

‘Edge of Seventeen’ TV Series Not Moving Forward at YouTube

Back in 2018, YouTube ordered a series pilot for a television adaptation of the indie darling The Edge of Seventeen. The film starred Hailee Steinfeld as high school junior Nadie as she deals with her own awkwardness, the trials and tribulations of teen life, and the complications of her best friend starting to date her older brother. But the YouTube series pilot brought in Orphan star Isabelle Fuhrmann to play a new character named Mira, who would have endured some of the same struggles. Unfor...

When The World Was Silent

It was early morning, and we had just posted a funny picture of Louie and me on our Facebook page. While writing this blog, one “like” after another popped up on the page, and I continually diverted my attention to review the latest comment. The post was trending well, and the “likes” popped up by the second. Louie, however, was unimpressed. As he sat on his favorite loveseat and sighed, he looked at me with those big brown eyes as if to say, “Mom, remember when the world was silent?” “Hmmm,” no...

8 best Thai food restaurants in the San Fernando Valley for takeout, delivery

Writing about some of the best takeout fried chicken, pizza, barbecue, sushi, fish and chips and chicken soup in the area — as I have over the past several weeks — narrows my choices down to a finite number of joints, and a limited number of options. But when I try to come up with the defining obsession at our many Thai restaurants, it’s not easy because there are so many dishes that I, and my fellow heavy forks, can’t live without. Pad Thai noodles? Green papaya salad? Chicken satay with lots o...

'Artificial Leaf' Concept Inspires Research Into Solar-Powered Fuel Production

Researchers from Rice University have created an efficient, low-cost device that splits water to produce hydrogen fuel. "The platform developed by the Brown School of Engineering lab of Rice materials scientist Jun Lou integrates catalytic electrodes and perovskite solar cells that, when triggered by sunlight, produce electricity," reports Phys.Org. "The current flows to the catalysts that turn water into hydrogen and oxygen, with a sunlight-to-hydrogen efficiency as high as 6.7%." From the repo...

I Forgot How Much I Loved These Beauty Products

I’ve organized and cleaned the pantry twice, I’ve shined the wood floors three times in the last 7 days, and I’ve organized my entire closet for the warmer weather (not that I’m going anywhere anytime soon but hey, be prepared right?). Now I’m busy rediscovering things I love. Like how did I forget how much I loved Little Britain? I’m re-watching all the series on Prime. Like if I had to self-isolate with one Little Britain character who would it be!? I know, I know I can’t pick Tom Baker r...

Devils’ Rebuild: Grading Shero’s Trades

Despite his quick departure from the brick-city, Ray Shero was very assertive in bringing his vision to life. In total, Shero made 36 trades during his tenure – some for better and some for worse. We previously assessed his time at the draft podium, and we know 24 of these trades involved either the acquisition or expenditure of draft picks. Of the 28 general managers in NHL history who were given exactly five years to build a winner, only five were more active than he – the highest being 51 tra...

While the New York Islanders have a players in both camps, like RFA Mathew Barzal, one of its core defensemen who’s having a career offensive season also needs a new contract for 2020-21 – Ryan Pulock. Clippers sluggish and stagnant in loss to Lakers, but not feeling defeated

LOS ANGELES — File under Good Things Come To An End: Lakers 112, Clippers 103. Doc Rivers’ squad had surged into its third game against the Lakers this season having reeled off six consecutive victories and won all 10 games that it played with a fully healthy roster. Those streaks are kaput, thanks to LeBron James and friends, who relished spoiling their co-tenant’s fun with a spirited effort Sunday afternoon at Staples Center. “They came out with more juice,” Clippers guard Patrick Beverley ...

Alt data's Wild West days may be ending as Congress and privacy advocates zero in on the industry. Nearly a dozen insiders tell us how data streams going dark is an 'unhedgeable' risk.

Recent congressional inquiries into Envestnet's Yodlee and Avast's Jumpshot highlight the risks aggregators of alternative data and their hedge-fund clients have as they rely on datasets that could disappear overnight. Business Insider spoke with about a dozen alternative-data providers and consumers to get a sense of how to sell and use a product, respectively, that is not guaranteed to always be there.  "It's a problem, and it's a largely unhedgeable risk," Tammer Kamel, the cofounder and CE...
