12 Awesome Sci-Fi Movies That Never Got Sequels

Many of the greatest science fiction franchises of all-time have benefitted from multiple cinematic installments that help expand their mythologies. Not every sequel to "Star Wars," "Star Trek," and "Alien" is great, but few would argue that their legacies are isolated to just one film. Occasionally, a sequel is even better than the original; recent films like "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Blade Runner 2049" surpassed expectations and became classics in their own right. But not every sci-fi series ge...

Sci-Fi Box Office Bombs That Deserve A Second Chance

As we emerge from the other side of the pandemic, a bunch of big budget science-fiction franchises are about to return to the big screen: Denis Villeneuve's adaption of "Dune," Lana Wachowski's "Matrix 4," James Cameron's "Avatar 2: The Klumps," and Patty Jenkins' contribution to the eternal Star Wars juggernaut, "Rogue Squadron."But a big license and major studio backing is no guarantee of success. "Solo" famously underperformed, as did David Lynch's "Dune" long before it. However, box office r...

14 Shows Like Riverdale You Can Binge Watch Right Now

Few shows compare to "Riverdale." It's a young adult series, but it's nothing like "Gossip Girl." It flirts with the supernatural, but it's nothing like 'The Vampire Diaries." That's the beauty of the CW series: What started as a sexy Archie Comics reboot has become so much more. "Riverdale" is a fruit salad of genre; it is a mystery, a dark comedy, a soap opera, a musical, and a social satire all at once.As a result, no matter what you like best about "Riverdale," there's bound to be another sh...

What To Watch Before Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Film trailers are an act of escalation. At minimum, they exist to make the public aware of a project. At best, a trailer can turn a movie with buzz into something you must see, right now, no excuses. In the forever war for pop-culture dominance, trailers lead the movie studios' charge -- which means they're often battling each other for supremacy. Getting the internet's attention, however, is a perilous task; it's hard to do, and when it backfires, it backfires big.Which is why, on May 10th, 202...

The 15 Best Debut Films From Directors

A great first film can jumpstart a filmmaker's career and show the world what makes them unique. For example, the conversational dialogue, '70s soundtrack, and nonlinear narrative of Quentin Tarantino's first film "Reservoir Dogs" established tropes that the director still relies on today. Not every great director starts out strong, though. Although he's one of the greatest filmmakers working today, David Fincher's career nearly imploded after his disastrous debut, "Alien 3." Similarly, some dire...

David Lynch's Feature Films Ranked From Worst To Best

David Lynch's movies are obsessed with the persistence and failure of identity, so it's not surprising that his 10 films are both like and unlike themselves. His movies circle around the same actors (Kyle MacLachlan, Laura Dern, Harry Dean Stanton), the same genres (noir, melodrama), the same themes (disability, sexual violence, infidelity, meta-film), and the same distinctively surreal, or hyper-real, absurdist visuals. But over his career Lynch has also continually pushed the boundaries of his...

Canalys: US PC sales up 17% YoY for quarter, even as tablet sales stagnate

Canalys released its quarterly U.S. PC sales today, and while the news was quite good with sales overall up 17% YoY, the growth slowed significantly from the prior quarter when sales soared to 74% pushed by the pandemic. Perhaps that is also due the widely reported worldwide chip shortage. HP retained top spot for the second straight quarter with 21.9% of the market, up over 20% from the previous year. Apple remained in second spot with 20.6% share. It’s worth noting, however, that Apple’s growt...
