From ‘McHale’s Navy’ and ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ to ‘Dorf,’ ‘SpongeBob’ and ’30 Rock,’ Tim Conway was like everybody’s favorite, goofy uncle. Just way more talented.

Tim Conway, who passed away Tuesday at age 85 following brain surgery last year, amused generations with his work on TV’s “McHale’s Navy” and “The Carol Burnett Show,” in Disney family films, that weird but apparently lucrative “Dorf” video series and as a cartoon voice for the likes of “SpongeBob SquarePants” and others. Close to a comic genius even if the deadpan delivery and extended silliness that were the polar marks of his humor may not have always indicated his true finesse, the longtime ...

Comedic Sidekick Tim Conway Dies At 85 After Fight With Dementia

“Conway’s breakout role was on the 1960s sitcom McHale’s Navy, as a bumbling ensign in World War II. On The Carol Burnett Show he played Mr. Tudball, a heavily-accented boss perpetually annoyed by his slow-moving secretary. On the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants he voiced a frustrated superhero sidekick called Barnacle Boy.” – NPR

I’ve Heard That Song Before: Reflecting on ‘Glee’ as It Turns 10

It seems to me I’ve heard that song before /  It’s from an old familiar score /  I know it well, that melody /  It’s funny how a theme recalls a favorite dream /  A dream that brought you so close to me /  I know each word because I’ve heard that song before – music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Sammy Cahn In high school, I was a Kurt. Or, at least, I would have been in a more precise way if my school had been big enough. I was a bit fey , not yet out, so opinionated that my art teacher ...

Alexander: Venus Williams just refuses to lose

INDIAN WELLS — Stubbornness by itself probably isn’t a winning strategy. But there are times it comes in handy. How else to explain Venus Williams’ first week at the BNP Paribas Open? She came in unseeded. She lost the middle set 6-0 in her first-round match against Germany’s Andrea Petkovic Thursday and came back to win. And she was down a set and two break points Saturday against Petra Kvitova, who was seeded third here and could conceivably have had a shot at the No. 1 ranking by at least rea...

No, Kevin McHale promises his profanity on TV was not about Jimmy Butler

Well here's a weird, hilarious and probably utterly forgettable little thing involving TWO men with Minnesota ties that happened TNT's broadcast of the 76ers' 112-109 loss to the Celtics on Tuesday: Former Gophers/Celtics star and Wolves executive/coach Kevin McHale was doing the broadcast for TNT — much to the chagrin of 76ers fans — and it seems as though a microphone was left on when he didn't realize it. The mic caught McHale using a compound word involving two body parts — one part specific...
