Asked to summarize McMurray's journey with the team, Ganassi said: "I think it starts off with sort of a storybook entrance to Cup back when Sterling [Marlin] got hurt there [at Kansas in 2002 when he suffered a neck vertebra injury that ended his season]. Dems Head Into Holiday Close To 40-Seat Pickup In House

Election Day’s strong showing for Democrats in the House, where they initially appeared to have flipped 27 seats to retake control, turned out to be just the beginning of their building blue wave. Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, Democrats are now poised to pick up an astonishing 40 seats in the House. Democrats got to 39 on Wednesday, with the Associated Press calling the close race for Utah’s 4th District for Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, who ousted incumbent Rep. Mia Love, the ...

These Races Are Still Up In The Air As Dust Starts To Settle After Election Day

A number of crucial midterms races remained too close to call or possibly headed for a runoff Wednesday morning, hours after polls closed across country. The overall shape of the race tracked with pollsters’ expectations: Democrats took control of the House of Representatives, Republicans slightly expanded their majority in the Senate, and key governor’s mansions flipped in both directions. But the final results, revealing just how well each party did, are not yet clear. Florida’s Senate race...

GOP Rep. Chris Collins Holds Seat Despite Insider Trading Indictment

Republican Rep. Chris Collins managed to hold onto his western New York congressional seat even as he stares down a federal trial for insider training charges. Democrat Nate McMurray conceded the race before any networks had called it, telling supporters he was “going to come up a little short tonight.” The contest in New York’s dark red 27th Congressional District was rated as “lean Republican,” so Collins victory isn’t exactly a surprise. But the GOP incumbent faced a real challenge from McM...

Bannon To Stump For Indicted Collins As Dem Opponent Gets National Boost

The contest for New York’s 27th congressional district is getting a boost on either side, with Steve Bannon coming out to stump for indicted Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) and national Democrats throwing their weight behind challenger Nate McMurray. The Buffalo News reported Wednesday that Bannon, the former consigliere to President Trump, is speaking at an Oct. 24 “Red Tide Rising” rally organized by fellow Trump ally Michael Caputo. Collins, one of the first Republican congressmen to back Trump’...

The Worst Campaign Attack Ads Of 2018 So Far

Another election year, another wave of nasty attack ads. With the 2018 midterm cycle in its final weeks, Senate and House candidates are unleashing their worst against their opponents: allegations of “un-American” behavior, Islamophobic innuendo, and not-so-subtle racism. TPM rounded up some of the most egregious campaign ads we’ve seen so far. Email us if there are any we missed! Under Indictment And Up For Re-election, Two GOP Congressmen Go Full Trump

GOP lawmakers Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Chris Collins (R-NY) made headlines in February 2016 when they became the first sitting members of Congress to endorse Donald Trump. In an odd bit of cosmic timing, the two Republicans earned matching headlines again this August when they were separately indicted on federal criminal charges. Now unexpectedly fighting for their seats in safely red districts on opposite coasts with just weeks before Election Day, Hunter and Collins are both borrowing heavi...

Johnson v. United States: Three years out

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in at least two speeches this August [links to remarks as prepared for delivery], called the consequences of a recent Supreme Court decision “devastating for Americans.” Sessions was referring to 2015’s Johnson v. United States, in which the Supreme Court struck down the residual clause of the Armed Career Criminal Act, finding it unconstitutionally vague. ACCA imposes sentencing enhancements on repeat offenders who commit crimes with guns. Specifically, under ACC...

‘The First Purge’ Director Gerard McMurray on How Modern Events Shaped the Movie

As America celebrates its best history over July 4th, the Purge movies propose its worst future. In the first three movies, The Purge is already an annual tradition, the one night a year where all crime is legal. This year’s The First Purge shows how it all began. The First Purge took place on Staten Island as an experiment to see if this would satiate the public for the rest of the year. Caught up in the experiment are neighborhood drug dealer Dmitri (Y’Lan Noel), protestor Nya (Lex Scott Davi...

‘The First Purge’ Featurette: “This Could Be A Real Situation”

For the fourth entry in the ongoing The Purge horror franchise, Universal Pictures is taking us back to the very beginning to show how all crime became legal in the United States for one night every year. Check out The First Purge featurette below, which also doubles as a warning for the audience to make sure this doesn’t happen in the real world. The First Purge Featurette “What makes The Purge saga scary is the fact that it’s realistic because of the time we’re in now,” says star Lex ...

‘The First Purge’ Review: A Fiery But Disappointing Prequel

When I saw The Purge: Anarchy in 2014, it shook me so badly that I genuinely feared I was going to be “purged” while walking back to my friend’s car in the movie theater parking lot. The franchise, which posits a future in which all crime is legal for 12 hours out of every year for reasons that have slowly been spun into clarity, had me hooked. Its approach to horror — socially and politically conscious horror, as it were — was effective, and if the third installment in the series, 2016’s The P...

Medical Malpractice: Orthopedic Surgeon Injured a Patient During Examination

My question involves malpractice in the state of: California I was given a referral and went to see an orthopedic doctor on 4/16/2018. It was for a consultation over a torn meniscus. I provided him with the MRI and X-ray of my knee. It's a large tear, and was even very obvious to my untrained eye on the MRI. I noted some strange things. First of all, he took me ahead of a lot of patients he had in the waiting room. I don't know why. Secondly, I noted that he was acting very strange the moment h...
